Millington is a city in and the county seat of Pickett County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 11,898 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Pickett County after Murfreesboro. Millington was founded by James Milliner on May 1, 1819 as a small town on the east bank of the Cumberland River. The first mills were built to flour and ship goods from Manchester, England. In 1835, Millington became one of the original Towns in Middle Tennessee when it seceded from Henderson County and formed its own government. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Confederate General Jubal Early arrived in Union territory to raid mills near Greeneville. Early's force burned nine miles (14 km) of railroad between Nashville and Clarksville before being driven back by Union forces under Ulysses S. Grant at Battle of Corinth on November 12th; this event helped solidify Union control over northeastern Tennessee." The first post office in Millington opened on December 3rd, 1871; it was renamed Murfreesboro on October 15th of that year due to postal service changes introduced during Reconstruction which moved many southern towns northward into northern counties for mail service reasons). On July 20th 1907 a fire destroyed most of downtown Millington when an uncontrolled electrical storm swept through town causing widespread damage throughout Potter Valley area including some three blocks across High Street where much valuable real estate had been destroyed or looted prior to that date by fires caused by lightning strikes while electric streetlights were failing; this occasioned what has been called "the Great Fire" which remains one of Millington's more famous memories according to its current residents. On September 25th 1927 local citizens raised enough money through a drive initiated by Mayor John Witherspoon to purchase 1/2 acre (0.16 ha) lot located just southbound frontage road off Lebanon Pike adjacent to present day White House Drive extending all the way to Main Street just inside Municipal Limits boundaries thereby forming what is today known as City Park located within limits limits today but then included within Municipal Limits back then because there never really was any limit until 1927 when it became part of City Park

Millington, Tennessee is a small town located in the Southern United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Millington was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1814. It became a cotton town after being leased from the federal government for that purpose in 1841. By 1870, it had become an agricultural center with over 100 slaveholders and 4,000 slaves. In 1865, during the American Civil War, Millington sided with Confederate forces and lost its status as a cotton town. However, it rapidly regained its former prominence as an agricultural community and growth continued until 1975 when it attained city status. Millington has experienced some growth since then including the establishment of several businesses such as Logistics Park and Pritchett Field Global Trading Company which are responsible for developing numerous new jobs in the cityscape.
Millington was founded in 1796 by George Milling. The town was named after General Robertstyle Milling, who fought in the American Revolution. The first school was built in 1807 and the first store was opened in 1808. In 1812, a sawmill was built and in 1814, a flour mill. In 1830, an gristmill was built and in 1835, a shoe factory. In 1840, a cotton gin was built and in 1850, a post office. A water wheel replaced the original pump engine in 1870. A station on the Nashville & Chattanooga Railroad served as the town's commercial center until it closed down in 1923. The population of Millington decreased from its peak of over 1000 people around 1920 to less than 100 people by 1990.
