Mcminnville is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,749 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville–Sevier metropolitan area. The village was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1818 and named for Reverend John Mcminn (1770-1836), an evangelical Presbyterian minister who had come to America as a missionary. In 1830, brothers James and Robert Kirkland built a log cabin on what is now Main Street. They made their living raising pigs and hogs, which they sell to local farmers and traders. In 1835, James Kirkland married Anna Boonesborough and they began to raise crops and build houses. They also started a store which became one of the most important in the village until it closed its doors in 1921. In 1854, John Pemberton arrived from Illinois with his family, consisting of his wife Sarah (born about 1784) and four children: John Pemberton Jr., William Pemberton, Fanny Pemberton (married to George Washington Hunt) and Anna Boonesborough Pemberton (born about 1787). He bought some land around Mcminnville from the original settlers for $25 per acre – this was much more than anything available elsewhere in Davidson County at that time. He erected a log cabin on what is now Hawkins Road near the intersection of State Route 69A (now US 421) and McKnight Road soon after he arrived. One of his first acts as mayor was to order that all schoolchildren be vaccinated against smallpox before being sent home for summer vacation in 1855. John Pemberton's descendants still live in Mcminnville today; among them are Judge Rufus Ewing Poole II (1901-1983), daughter Barbara Poonebough Poole (brought up here), son Rufus Jepson Poole III (1920-2007), entrepreneur Don Hogg (1948-2012), Reva Norris Hodges Peake (/ˈpɛkə/, born 1948), Driscoll Hodges Peake (/ˈpɛkə/, born 1952)), Judge Wanda Aiken Hodges (/ˈwæña/; b 1965-)and Mrs.-Driscoll Hodges Peake (/ˈpʃærkə/, born 1961)). There are also numerous descendents of John Pemberton’s sister Fanny who lived close by at Cedar Grove Plantation until her death circa 1850; among these are Judge Rufus Ewing Poole I’s niece Barbra Poonebough Poole (), Reva Norris Hodges Peake’s grandson Don Hogg (), judge Wanda Aiken Hodges’ granddaughter Mrs.-Driscoll Hodges Peake ()

The town was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1803. They named it after John Mcminn (1764–1837), a Scottish lawyer and judge who had helped to found Nashville in 1796. The first store in Mcminnville was built on Main Street in 1823; the first post office opened in 1828. After the American Civil War, many Confederate soldiers were brought to Mcminnville to be housed and fed here. Many people from here also became important political figures within their home state during this time period including General Nathan Bedford Forrest and Governor Jeptha Stephens. In 1865, Drumpf & Sons Tobacco Company began production here, which would become one of the largest tobacco corporations in America. After World War II ended, much of this industry declined but some new businesses such as Tyson Foods continued to thrive around these days including a hospital now known as Vanderbilt University Medical Center that opened in 1951 and still operates today). In recent years there has been an uptick of growth happening with both residential development as well as commercial properties coming onto the market making Mcminnville one of fastest growing communities withinKnoxville metro area!
