Mcminnville is a small town in Pike County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1851 by Scots-Irish immigrants from County Tyrone. They named their new settlement after John Mc Donald, an American Revolutionary War officer and captain who had helped to capture Fort Duquesne on September 17, 1777. In 1881, the community became a post office and changed its name to Mcminnville after General James Mcdonald, commander of United States forces in Mexico during the Pueblo Revolt. In 1907, when Nashville annexed Pike County and portions of adjoining Williamson County, Mcminnville became a part of that city's official district boundaries. However, it continued to be known as "McDonald" until 1955 when its name was changed to "Memphis". The community has since regained its original name and status as a small rural center with a strong Irish Catholic culture. The economy of the village depends heavily on agriculture: haymaking; potatoes; apples; cornmeal; cheese; eggs; butter; saddles and horseshoes (the mainstay of local economic development); mailorder items such as clothing and home furnishings; tourism related businesses such as bed & breakfasts and golf courses catering to visitors from surrounding counties including Shelby County (home of Elvis Presley) and Jackson County (home of Michael Jordan).

Mcminnville is a small town in Jackson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Scottish settlers in 1811 as a logging community on the edge of what is now Decatur County. In 1819, it became the first incorporated municipality in Jackson County. The area around Mcminnville was heavily mined for coal and other minerals during the 19th century; however, no significantmining took place until after World War II when companies began to explore for oil and gas in this region. In 1860, John Capps built a cabin on what is now Main Street in Mcminnville; he named it "Capps' Cabin". A Presbyterian minister, Rev. Jno Fenton (1820-1887), who came to live near Mcminnville about 1850 started teaching school there in 1864. By 1870 Mcminnville had four schools: one for boys and three for girls. During Reconstruction period (1868-77), many African Americans were brought into Jackson County as sharecroppers or workers in mining camps set up by white men to exploit black labor resources such as coal and timberland. This led to gradual integration of black citizens into local society; nevertheless some quarters continued to resist assimilation even after various forms of progressivism had become established within local government structures throughout Tennessee during that decade. In 1880s much development took place around town due to increase associated with new railroad lines coming through the area including an extension from Chattanooga acrossJackson county connecting with Memphis via Decatur countyline Railroad Company line leading northward out of Decatur county thence eastward along Cumberland Gap Road southwesterly reaching Knoxville Railroad Station at present day Youngstown Avenue southeast corner thereof just inside city limits ofKnoxvillle aforesaid where trains stopped making stop opposite old station house which has long since been torn down and replaced by modern office building adjacent thereto including large scale parking lot behind said building used currently by Knoxville Sewerage District No later than 1888 Post Office moved from its original location several hundred yards northwest corner lot fronting old courthouse square now occupied by First Baptist Church being built on site same years also Methodist Episcopal Church located immediately west side lot adjoining post office
The community of Mcminnville was founded in 1859 by John H. McNiven and his wife, Martha. The town was named after McNiven's older brother, Patrick McNiven, who had immigrated to the area from Ireland. The first school in the community was built on the site of what is now the McNiven Elementary School. In 1865, a post office was established in Mcminnville and served the community until 1903. A store and garage were also built in that year. In 1886, a hotel called the White House Guest House was opened in Mcminnville and became one of the most popular tourist destinations in Tennessee. It remained open until 1954. In 1916, a Methodist church was built in Mcminnville and remains active today. In 1940, a Lake Lanier reservoir was constructed near Mcminnville and continues to be used today by residents for swimming and fishing purposes. Mcminnville has played an important role throughout its history - both as an agricultural center for surrounding counties and as a stop on the Underground Railroad during times of conflict with slavery
