McMinnville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,929 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The town was founded in 1829 by John McMillin and his family. In 1865, it was founded as a post office and two years later it became the county seat of Williamson County. In 1882, McMillin donated land to build the first high school in the county. The school district was established in 1903 and changed its name to McMillin-Rutherford High School in 1984. The college now located there also bears that name. In 1990, McMillin Elementary School (now Mcminnville Middle School) opened for students grades K-8th grade; it had been opened as an elementary school only for girls until then. In 2002, Glenbrook Elementary School (now Glenbrook II Middle School) opened for students grades 9-12th grade; it had been open only for boys until then. The townsites of Fort Worth and Greeneville were annexed into Mcminnville in 1957 and 1960 respectively; these townsite annexations were considered to be part of larger changes taking place throughout Williamson County during this time period which included increased cotton production due to new irrigation systems being built around Nashville following World War II which made possible more efficient use of resources such as land and water scarce in earlier times

It also served as a major transportation hub because of its location at the junction of several wagon roads. In 1940, during World War II, Mcminnville played an important role in the Allied victory against Nazi Germany. After the war, many businesses closed or were converted into housing developments. However, some residents kept their homes and continue to live there today.
John S. Mcminnville was born on October 11, 1827 in Knox County, Tennessee. He died on January 10, 1912 in Knox County, Tennessee. John Mcminnville was an entrepreneur and politician who played a significant role in the early history of Knox County. In 1859, he founded the first paper mill in Knox County. He also served as a trustee of the first bank in Knox County. John Mcminnville was also an important figure during the antebellum period and played a significant role in developing the county economy.
