Maryville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded around 1815 by General John Covington and his family after they left Knoxville for Maryville to take up land grant from the Cherokee Nation. The name "Maryville" first appears on a deed dated 17 May 1792 from James Robertson to Colonel David McLaws and others. It became an incorporated town in 1877 & again in 1907 when it annexed the neighboring village of Spring Hill. In 1921, Maryville's post office closed because of mail fraud committed by its Postmaster-General, Vandal Hamerlen. A new post office was opened in April 1922 by J.D Deaver with furnishings provided by local store owner Prentiss Cobbrells (1870-1937). In 1926, the community annexed Spring Hill which had been abandoned since 1922 due to lack of population or infrastructure. The original Baptist church building burned down on December 4th, 1924 while services were being held inside; however, soon afterwards a new church was built using funds raised from local sales taxes that year alone. The current Baptist church building was completed in 1951 and replaced an earlier frame structure built in 1875 which also served as a schoolhouse and courthouse Annex during this time period In addition to churches there are now also several Roman Catholic chapels dotting the town square including one run by Sisters of Mercy . There are also several Islamic mosques located throughout town as well as evangelical/ Pentecostal meetings taking place at various locations including a health club and nearby golf course . With so many religious organizations present it can be difficult to determine just what type of religion is practiced within Maryville but overall it remains an overwhelmingly Christian based community with some Muslim residents

In 1871, the population of Maryville was just over 1,000. By 1907, it had grown to a town of over 12,000 people. The city was founded by General J.B. Stuart in 1852 and named for his father-in-law, James Bledsoe. In 1865, General John Custer was stationed in Maryville and his unit is said to have stopped at the local grocery store on their way back from battle during the Battle of Little Big Horn. The city's growth continued during the late 1800s and early 1900s as cotton farming flourished in what is now downtown Maryville. The first post office was established in 1875 and a Masonic Lodge was chartered in 1901. During this time period, many businesses were built such as a flour mill and hospital followed by two theaters (the First National Playhouse opened its doors in 1902 and the United States Paramount Theater opened its doors in 1909). During World War II, Maryville became an important military base due to its location close to Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) lines that served rural areas across much of central Tennessee. Many businesses closed during wartime but reopened after the war ended; however some closures occurred such as the closure of the flour mill which led to increased competition from other mills throughout nearby Memphis area. Today, downtown Maryville remains a busy commercial district with several large buildings including both corporate headquarters for various companies as well as smaller industries along with numerous restaurants and bars lining Main Street. Additionally, historically significant churches located within or adjacent to downtownMaryville continue to serve as major tourist attractions drawing visitors from all around central Tennessee

Maryville is a town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis metropolitan area. Maryville was founded in 1837 by Methodists and Presbyterianians as a small settlement on the Cumberland River opposite Clarksville. The name derived from Mount Carmel, where Elijah's believers met to worship after his death. In 1845, the Methodist General Conference decided that Maryville be made an independent town and it did so on November 10 of that year. The first post office in Maryville was established in 1847, and the first store opened in 1850. The first school was built in 1852 and included arithmetic andetry classes for students from surrounding villages. By 1860, there were two churches in Maryville with more than 100 members each. A canal connecting Clarksville with Nashville was completed in 1865; this helped to increase trade around town which supported new businesses such as a flour mill (1867), wagon shop (1868), harness factory (1872), oil refinery (1875), lumberyard (1901) and bakery (1910).
