That same year, Maryville's only store – Gertrude Baird & Brothers – opened its doors after years of planning and struggle; later becoming one of Maryville's most famous landmarks along with her husband Sam Baird's grocery store across Main Street which still thrives today - both businesses are currently owned by Baker Family Restaurants Incorporated (a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines) who operate them under various names throughout the region including Sam's Place BBQ & Spirits and Gertrude's Hardware.
