Martin is a small town located in southwestern Tennessee. It has a population of around 1,500 people and is home to the Martin Academy, one of the largest elementary schools in the area. The town was named after Revolutionary War General James Martin who was killed during the Battle of Monmouth on July 4th, 1776. The battle took place near what is now downtown Martinsville and it was one of the bloodiest battles in American history. The town began to form as a result of its proximity to what is now Monmouth County. In 1813, John Sevier, an early settler in this area, erected a log cabin on what is now Main Street. He named it "Martin" after General James Martin who had fought at Monmouth and died during the battle. The first post office was established in 1826 and remained open until 1901. The community grew rapidly due to its location and access to natural resources such as coal and timber. By 1905, there were over 100 businesses in the community with a total population of 2,000 people. The growth continued through World War II until 1945 when all manufacturing ended in Martin because of wartime restrictions on exports from America's middle class society. After war ended, however, growth resumed with new businesses popping up throughout the decade including two medical clinics and two grocery stores before settling into their current form today which has seen steady growth since 2000s

Martin, Tennessee is a small town in the U.S. state of Tennessee that is best known for its famous Martin Luther King Jr. speech and "I Have a Dream" speech. The town was also birthplace to General James O'Hara and Confederate general Braxton Bragg. The population of the town was 5,711 at the 2010 census. The townsite of Martin was first settled by families from North Carolina in 1819 as part of what would become Jackson County. In 1836, Colonel John Cagle bought 370 acres (160 ha) in what is now Martin from Jesse Whitaker for $1,000 sterling including 50 cents per acre (0.30 ha). The site became an agricultural center with slave labor and cattle ranching until the early 20th century when it turned into a small frontier community with few paved streets and only one schoolhouse between 1836 and 1900. In 1906, Drayton Waddell organized what would become the American Nursery School District No. 2 inMartin; this school district served both rural residents and business people who lived near Martin's post office on Raccoon Creek Road until it merged into Knox County Education Department on April 1, 1945 In 1951, when Knox County ceased to exist as an entity separate from Tennessean Education Department due to budget cuts, all educational functions were transferred to Johnson City Schools which still operates today as part of Johnson City–Fort Worth School District
Martin was founded in 1821 by Captain James Robertson and his wife, Catherine. The town was named for General John Martin who fought in the American Revolution. In 1829, the first school was built in the town. In 1840, a sawmill and gristmill were built in the town. A post office was established in 1851, and a store opened in 1861. The first Baptist church was organized in Martin in 1865. The railroad arrived toMartinville on September 1, 1870, and soon after a general store and hotel were built along with several other businesses including a harness shop, blacksmith shop, grocery store, Masonic lodge and two schools. In 1886 there were three churches: one Protestant (Church of England), one Methodist (First Baptist) and one Catholic (All Souls). In 1912 there were four churches: one Protestant (Church of England), one Methodist (First Baptist), One Roman Catholic (All Souls) and two Presbyterian churches had been erected by that time as well as what is now known as “the drug store” which served as an important commercial center until it burned down around 1938-1939
