Gun swivels have a long and varied history in Martin, Tennessee. The first guns with swivels were made in the 1800s by gunsmiths in the area. There are several references togunswivels in the local paper records from this time period. In 1884, Reverend W.B. Goodwyn founded the First Presbyterian Church of Martin County, which had a library on its premises. Goodwyn was also an early advocate for gun safety and became known for his work withThe National Rifle Association (NRA). In 1907, Goodwyn donated two shotguns to the new church library along with a set of gun swivels to be used as firearms mounted on either side of the shotgun barrels. Gun Swivels were first patented in 1868 by Capt. George Martin of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The idea behind the gun swivel was to make it easier for citizens to get their firearms onto and off of vehicles.
Martin is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,851 at the 2010 census. The name "Martin" is derived from the Cherokee word mahtsi-a-daha ( meaning "place of peace"). The first European to visit the area was Andrew Jackson who named it after his ancestor, Martin Hawkins. In 1817, General James K. Polk visited and surveyed the area which would later become known as Martin County. In 1836, John Cephus built a cabin on what is now State Route 51 near present day Knoxville. He and his wife stayed there until their death in 1839. In 1847, three men - George Ladd, Jesse Whitehead and John Purdy - founded what would become Knoxville when they discovered coal seams near present day Martin County. They named their new city after their old home state of Tennessee:Knoxville. The town began to grow quickly and by 1850 had a population of over 575 people. In 1865, Confederate General Sterling Price invaded Tennessee with an army commanded by Robert Ewell and attacked Knoxville while Union forces were besieging Chattanooga; however, Price's army was repulsed at Battle of Lookout Hill before reaching Knoxville proper. After this defeat, many northern Virginians moved into Knoxville for fear that Confederate forces might attempt another invasion should they take control of Nashville again following their victory in Atlanta Georgia the previous year During World War II much activity took place inMartin due to its proximity to Army Air Force bases located nearby such as Maxwell Air Force Base and Whiteman Air Force Base; however no combat occurred within the town limits due to lack of resources . Today much economic activity takes place throughout Martin thanks to its location within easy reach of several major urban areas across northwestTennessee including Knoxville , Chattanooga , Johnson City , Memphis Tennesseans have been contributing heavily towards local economies for decades through various forms of entrepreneurship such as small businesses ; manufacturing ; healthcare ; tourism ; agriculture

Martin was founded in 1797 by the surveyor, Martin Jones. The town was named for General James Martin who fought against the British in the American Revolution. The community developed around a cotton plantation and store. It had a school, post office, and two churches by 1825. In 1853, it became an incorporated village. In 1897, it lost its status as a village and became part of the city of Knoxville. The population declined during World War II but revived following the war with growth in businesses and jobs in manufacturing. The city annexed the town of Northport in 1961 which led to another decline in population until 2007 when it regained its former size.
Martin, Tennessee is a small town located in the southern part of the state of Tennessee. The population was 7,463 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Jefferson County.
