Martin is a small town in northeastern Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County seat. The first permanent settler in Martin was James Robertson in 1818. In 1830, two brothers named John and Andrew started trading posts in the area. By 1840, there were twelve settlers living in Martin. Martin began to grow rapidly due to its location on the Cumberland River and its access toigrants heading northward for the Civil War. Most of what is now Martin was developed during this time: a Methodist Episcopal church was built in 1865, a school opened in 1867, and a post office was established in 1870. The railroad arrived in 1886 and increased trade with nearby towns such as Chattanooga and Knoxville; by 1907, Martin had over 100 businesseseurprise including groceries, lumber, hardware, saddles and wagon parts stores as well as three banks (the First National Bank of Martinsburg), two churches (the Baptist Church of God & Jesus Christ and Second Presbyterian Church), four schools (grades one through eight) and six houses. In 1955-1956 the town erected an impressive stone courthouse which still stands today on Main Street; it served as court house for most of northeastern Tennessee until that state's system changed to judicial district courts beginning with System No. 2 veneer case law effective January 1st 1959 which excludedMartin from court jurisdiction due to its lack of an infrastructure specifically designed for serving quasi-judicial proceedings having no real impact on day-to-day life other than being costly hassle factor).

Martin, Tennessee is a town located in Knox County, Tennessee. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. The name of the town comes from Benjamin Franklin and James Robertson Martin, both who were majoritarians in early settler life there. The first residents of Martin came to the area in 1819 when Captain John Smith discovered land that he thought would be a good place to settle because it had no trees or other natural obstructions in its way. He and his party arrived on July 4th, 1819 and named the site "Martin." The first school was built here in 1826. In 1830, a court house was erected here which served as the courthouse for Knox County until 1876 when it moved to Chattanooga. In 1840, Colonel John Sevier founded what became known as Sevier Academy which educated future leaders such as Andrew Johnson and Ulysses S Grant. In 1865-1866 local citizens raised money for $1 million for two new reservoirs which would provide water for southern Knoxville and Chattanooga during what became known as the Great Tennessean Floods (the largest natural disaster in Knox County history). Those responsible include Aimee Semple Hines who organized relief efforts after being swept away by floodwaters while working on her farm downstream from where she lived; Wm Folsom who collected money from farmers along riverside roads so they could send goods upriver to help those affected by floods; Alfred Vail who directed traffic during high water conditions; Driller J.D. Whitehead whose job kept things moving during these times In 1870-71 white settlers established an academy called Methodist Episcopal School (later renamed Presbyterian Ladies College) with twelve acres donated by Mrs.' Anna Rice Cobbett near present day downtown Martinville with plans to educate African American women like herself about their social role within society at that time . Classes started on September 9th 1870 under Miss Sarah Ebbetts instruction . About sixty students graduated from this academy but due to lack of space many left for homes in Nashville after one year only having learned how to read and write . Mrs Jno Pritchard Walker took over operations of this school after Sarah Ebbetts death until 1893 when it merged into Vanderbilt University’s Female College program Today “The Martin Historic District” includes approximately eighty-five buildings dating back to around 1800 including three church spires – all while preserving much original architecture including several unique schools (MEMORY SCHOOLS), doctor’s offices/hospitals (HOSPITAL OF THE LAMB), cotton ginnery (Cotton Ginners Company), blacksmith shop/factory complex/warehouse (Martin Blacksmithy Company), Baptist Church (First Baptist Church) with accompanying cemetery, post office building/fire station/laboratory complex also included within district boundaries - making this one of most complete small town histories ever compiled!
