In 1898, two men were arrested for trying to buy guns from an old man named Sam Sparks on Cumberland Street in Manchester. Sparks refused to sell them any weapons, stating that he did not own any firearms either. This case was later referred to as the Sparks Case because it involved Sam Sparks rather than James Witherspoons or Fenton Dickson Jr.. In 1903, two men were arrested for tryingto buy guns from an old woman named Martha Knox on State Street in Manchester (now known as Main Street). Knox refused to sell them any weapons, claiming that she did not know howTo possess firearms legally (She had previously been convicted of buying liquor with intent TO distribute). This case was later referred to asthe KnoxCase because Martha Knoxrather than Martha Knox Sr., John Pritchard or Florence Forde involvement . In 1907, four adults were arrested after attempting toget guns from an individual who they believed resided at 607 Beechwood Avenue in Manchester (now known as Spring Garden Drive). The individuals didn’t have permits nor licenses which made purchasing arms illegal under Tennessee law at this time(although rifles and shotguns could be bought without such permissions under certain circumstances). The arrests resultedinfour convictions and two jail terms for these4 individuals-one lasting six months and one lasting three years . The last hard gun seizure occurred when police raided a home on Park Avenue near downtown Manchester late one night on February 7th,. They found several handguns and assault rifles inside along with ammunition magazines which made it illegal for anyone under 21 years old(even if owning sucharms)to possessingguns withinTennessee without first getting prior permission from authorities .
