During World War II many residents served in the military; many young men from rural areas like Lewisburg joined up because they saw no other way to support their families while serving than through agriculture or manufacturing jobs during wartime. After the war ended many farmers returned to their former pursuits but some new businesses were started including a hospital (the first one in Tennessee) which became one of the most popular tourist attractions in town during later decades; several auto parts stores opened up around town;and more recently there has been increased development along Interstate 24 with new housing developments going up as well as restaurants and retail stores popping up all around town making it even more vibrant today than when it first began appearing on map back in the 1990s!
