Lewisburg is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,717 at the 2010 census. Lewisburg is the county seat of Davidson County. It is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Lewisburg was John Sevier (1799-1868). He and his family arrived on July 11, 1800 from London, England via Botetourt Island in Virginia. They set up a log cabin on an open field near present-day Summit Avenue and Lookout Hill Road. Sevier's son James built a sawmill and gristmill onpresent-day Ossining Road in 1806; these two mills were one of the earliest commercial enterprises in Lewisburg. In 1814, Drayton Cranch was founded by James Dandridge as a milltown on cedar logs dug down to Mill Creek for this purpose. The town grew rapidly but declined after both mills were destroyed by fire in 1824 and 1827; however, it continued to grow as cotton plantations were established around nearby Springdale and Lebanon Hills during the 1830s and 1840s. A store opened in 1841 along Sawyers Fork River just east of present-day Lewisburg Cemetery; this store became known as "The Log Store." By 1850, there were over 100 people living in Lewisburgh; most of these residents worked at either the mills or farming operations aroundSpringdale and Lebanon Hills. During the American Civil War (1861-65), much activity occurred within 25 miles (40 km) of downtown Nashville due to its strategic location at Transylvania Gap between Chattanooga Army National Guard Corps forces marching towards Nashville from Knoxville and Union army troops marching towards Memphis from Tennessee Valley Provinceemberg southward across Cumberland Plateau into Kentucky General George Armstrong's Department which included parts of Davidson County including Lewisburgh Township including today's Lewisburg village limits In 1865, Confederate general Braxton Bragg decided to abandon Transylvania Gap rather than fight against Union forces under Ulysses S Grant who had captured Savannah while campaigning through Middle Tennessee Bragg's decision led to heavy fighting throughout eastern TN during April–May 1865 with Battle of Stones River occurring just outside present day Clarksville where Confederate lieutenant colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest lost his life while leading 4th Georgia Infantry Regiment against 1st Kentucky Infantry Regiment commanded by Major General James Longstreet On May 10 1865 citizens collected more than $3 thousand dollars worth of goods that had been abandoned by soldiers at Stones River Presbyterian Church after battle before fleeing back into town center behind picket lines organized by military Governor Robert E Price

In 1968, The Gun Control Amendments of 1968 were passed into law. These amendments changed several aspects of NRA regulations such as increasing background checks on firearm purchasers and limiting magazine capacity to 10 rounds. Lewisburg is a town in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. Lewisburg was founded in 1849 by General James Wilkinson and named for him. It was incorporated as a town on November 3, 1876. The town's first post office was established in 1851 and its first store opened in 1853. Lewisburg is located on the Cumberland Plateau overlooking the lower Mississippi River. The Lewisburg community grew quickly due to its location and access to timber resources which helped contribute to its development as a small farming community. In 1850, the first Methodist church in Sullivan County (then called Hawkins) was built in Lewisburg; it served as the only religious facility until 1865 when an addition was built to serve the growing community of Lewisburg and surrounding areas. In1876, General James Wilkinson donated land for a new town hall which became his home during his lifetime. The cornerstone of this building was laid on December 12, 1880 by local minister John Fenton who also served as mayor from 1896-1901 and 1909-1910. According to history books written about Lewisburg during these years, most of the citizens living within the city limits voted against annexation into Jacksonville because they felt that their city had more important needs than providing services to what they saw as an unwanted newcomer with little history or culture - much like Jacksonville has been accused of doing in recent years with other towns annexed into it without proper consideration). In 1924, general Nathan Bedford Forrest leased 800 acres (30 km²) directly west of downtown from WMA Industries for $1 million dollars ($ million today). This area would become known as Forrest Park after Forrest's death when he bequeathed it to his family membersvorrently intending it to remain undeveloped and primarily used for hunting purposes although some plans were made for housing/retail development over time Lewisburg experienced significant growth following World War II thanks in part to its strategic location between Nashville and Memphis - two major centers of industrial production during that period.
