Lewisburg, Tennessee is a small town in Johnson County, Tennessee. The population was 1,362 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Chattanooga–Murfreesboro–Etowah Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisburg is situated on the TN-US-423 highway and has a ZIP code of 39221. The first permanent settler in what would become Lewisburg was James Hogg in 1814. He and his family built a log cabin on an old family farm southwest of downtown. In 1838, Hogg's grandson John Hogg purchased land east of downtown from David Fenton for $2 per acre (0.09 €/acre). This area became known as "Fenton Hill." In 1861, Jepson Catton homesteaded property northeast of downtown and named it after himself – Catton Place or "Columbia." By 1870, there were over 20 homes in Lewisburg with a total population of 350 people. In 1865, Funk & Wagnalls opened its first store at 202 S Main Street near where present day US 423 meets I-75 south of town line; this was one of the first stores west of the Appalachian Mountains open to white farmers and their families. In 1868, Donelson & Company began operating a sawmill on Falls Creek which still operates today as part of Donelson Industries Limited Partnership company located within city limits; Lewisburg also became home to one OFHEW (Ohio Federation Of Highways) station served by UP Express buses serving both passenger terminals daily between points within city limits as well as Greeneville bus terminal every day except Sundays when service stops at Powell's Ferry Landing outside city limits; all bus services stop in front ofFRANKLIN'S MARKETPLACE grocery store adjacent to intersection with Jackson Avenue just northwest cornerof FRANKLIN'S MARKETPLACE lot previously occupied by DICKERSON COFFEEHOUSE restaurant prior to construction that structure's demolition previous owner announced plans to demolish following completion date unknown but likely sometime before 2008 due lack notice given status change from commercial building permit application to residential development permit applications among other changes made during early phases thereof including erection andporary occupancy by individual individuals who purported intent to engage in commercial activities having no apparent connection whatsoever with existing business entities having substantial ownership interest therein operations ceased abruptly without warning such individual or group being immediately identified pending examination pursuant thereto by local authorities upon request during aforementioned scheduled inspection period nonetheless no arrests were ever made resulting from potential investigation into allegations made against any individual associated therewith although some additional investigative activity may have been conducted involving persons mentioned herein without results since no charges have been filed subsequent occupants begins providing electricity through power lines installed circa 1984 which installation remains operational today despite several attempts by City fathers via ordinance referendum measure passed overwhelmingly last year by overwhelming majorities vote second reading February 26th 2009 REVOKED WITHOUT AN EXAMINATION TO DETERMINE if operation should continue notwithstanding protestations from current occupants voluntarily terminating service amid numerous complaints received regarding high levels(well over 100 dBm annually measured inside building vicinity typical occupant level since inception)) On July 4th 1926 residents voted 5-1 not to annex neighboring communities McNairy County nor Knoxville because they felt too much competition for scarce farmland opportunities here in our small town setting; instead they decided we would form our own municipality taking care of our own affairs including schools etcetera thereby avoiding duplicating efforts might be encountered elsewhere incidentally Lewisburg had already formed an agricultural society back East under different name several years earlier prior thereto though organization does not appear extant records reveal details

Lewisburg was founded in 1798 by General James Robertson and his wife, Catherine. The town at the forks of the Cumberland River was named after Lewisburg, Virginia. In 1819, General John Bell Hood fought a battle in Lewisburg and it is said that he exclaimed "There's nothing like a good pitched battle in central Tennessee!" The town grew rapidly during the antebellum period with large plantations and homes being built. By 1860, Lewisburg had around 9500 residents and was known as one of the most prosperous small towns in Tennessee. However, following the Civil War, Lewisburghs fortunes declined as cotton production decreased and its population shrank to around 3000. Today, Lewisburgh remains an agricultural community located about 20 miles west of Nashville.
