Thomson and his wife Harriet. The Arsenal produced firearms for the militia and other local residents. It was also used to produce ammunition for cannons and handguns. In 1903, the gun barrel production at the Arsenal stopped because of a lack of funds. However, in 1924, it reopened with new machinery thanks to a donation from Colonel Samuel Kappes. Since then, the Arsenal has producedguns for all sorts of purposes including target shooting, hunting, and self-defense. Today, it remains one of the largest gun barrel factories in Tennessee. Lewisburg is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,032 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson–Murfreesboro, TN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lewisburg is located on the Cumberland River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen: Cfa). The first white settler in what would become Lewisburg was Samuel Washburn who arrived in 1814. Washburn built a cabin on the riverbank and named his settlement for his friend Major General Andrew Jackson who had been in command of the army during the War of 1812. In 1820, John Dickson founded another cabin about a mile upstream from Washburn's and named it for him as well. Dickson's home still stands today and is used as a museum. In 1830, John McClendon bought land east of present day Lewisburg from Colonel James Caldwell for $1125 dollars. McClendon renamed his land "McClendon Place" after himself and began to build houses there. On July 4th, 1830, he married Anna Maria Wallace which produced their only child- Anna Maria McLendon McClendon born November 12th 1830 at McLendon Place.(1) In 1835, McClendon sold his property to Wm Hagan which led to the present day name of Lewisburg- Hagan Landing(2). In 1840s two other pioneer families also settled near present day Lewisburg- Donelson & Williamson families. Donelson family moved upriver to find more fertile ground while Williamson family moved downriver to help with post production work on nearby plantations.(3) By 1850 there were 8 households in Lewisburg with just over 50 people living here.(4) However by 1860 there were only 3 households left with just under 20 people living here.(5) The reasons for this decrease are unknown but may have been due to economic factors such as changes in agricultural production or competition from other towns within Hardin County that had larger populations.(6) In 1865 Robert Stephenson donated land along the Cumberland River opposite wherepresentday Lewisburg sits for use as an airport(7). This allowed easy access to surrounding farms for shipping products and helped spur development within present day Lewisburg along with other towns within Hardin County.(8) By 1870 total population had decreased by 50% due largely to industrialization across central Tennessee which causedjobs opportunities away from rural areas((9)) However some new residents did arrive including parents fleeing Civil War encampments across central Tennessee((10)) leading eventually to increased population growth back into what would becomeLewisburgh through natural increase throughout most of the 19th century(*)(11). By 1910 there were 264 people living in what would becomeLewisburgh(12)). Most notable resident during this time was Jno Gentry who owned several businesses including lumber yards and distilleries(*)(13)). After World War I Gentry returned home and started developing homes including one that still stands today(*)(14). Today more than half a century later almost all original buildings have been preserved or replaced(*)(15), makingLewisburgh one of most successful small towns in Appalachia.*

Lewisburg is a small town in Yancey County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,807 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. Lewisburg was founded by colonists from what is now Easton, Pennsylvania in 1775. The community was named for General James Lewis and his family. In 1815, the town had a population of 2,500. By 1860, it had declined to 1,100 people. However, it grew rapidly during the American Civil War as soldiers moved into Lewisburg to fight on both sides of the war. The population reached 10,000 by 1865. After the war ended in 1865, Lewisburg experienced a period of decline until its revival during World War II when it became one of the largest towns in Tennessee again with a population over 10 thousand residents
Lewisburg is located in Robertson County, Tennessee. The village was established in 1809 and named for General James Lewis. It became the capital of Robertson County in 1821, and the first state capital of Tennessee on October 3, 1827.
