Lewisburg is a small town in Greene County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. Lewisburg is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. It was founded by General John Sevier in 1796 as a trading post on the Cumberland River. The town was named for Lewis and Clark's expedition through Tennessee in 1805. In 1861, after Confederate forces burned down much of Knoxville, Tennessee, Lewisburg became an important military supply stop for Union forces marching through that state. After the war ended and most of the downtown buildings were destroyed by fire in 1865, Lewisburg regained its former prominence as a center of commerce and culture. The town has since developed into a bedroom community for Chattanooga with many residents commuting to work in larger cities such as Nashville or Atlanta.

Lewisburg is a town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 3,527 at the 2010 census. Lewisburg is the county seat of Johnson County. Lewisburg was founded in 1812 by Captain James Clark and his family. The town was named after General John Custer's battle with the Sioux in 1876. The first settler in Lewisburg was Captain James Clark and his family who came from Scotland in 1812 to start a new life on the frontier of what is now Johnson County, Tennessee. In 1815, Captain Clark married Nancy Cancelliere and had two children: James who would become a general during the American Civil War and Lucy who would marry Colonel John Soddy of Union Carbide Company fame – one of America’s most successful oil companies. In 1816, when Nashville became the state capital, Governor David Ritchie appointed Captains James Clark and George Washington to survey land for an inn on the Cumberland River called Clarksville Inn (now known as Lewisburg). They found that there were already several buildings located in what is now Lewisburg which they name after their families – Captain Clark's House (now gone), Mrs Cancelliere's House (now home to I-40), Mr Soddy's Cabin (now occupied by friends of Mayor Anna May Stoneman), Old Fort/Forts Loudoun (now closed) and finally Fort Loudoun/Forts Davidson which served as our first courthouse building on Main Street today! Captain Clark also built a log cabin near where he currently resides on Deep Creek Road just upstream from where we used to have our sawmillrace - this cabin still stands today! The following year around December 1st1816 Captain JamesClark led a group of men overland from Clarksville Inn towards what is now Athens, Alabama under cover of darkness with only 12 rifles because they knew no one could follow them! They reached what is now Athens about sunset on December 5th before continuing their journey northeastward through present day Perrysburg until January 6th when they arrived at Big Sandy Shoals where they stopped for dinner before continuing their journey into Alabama that night! In all those days traveling it must have been quite an experience because within hours of arriving at Big Sandy Shoals they discovered there were no rivers or streams obstructing their way so they proceeded onward unchallenged until January 10th when temperatures began to drop below freezing pointeneither party could continue forward any further so Captains Clarke ordered his men back up river along Little Sandy Shoals leading them safely back into Clarksville Inn that night! By doing so they avoided any possible combat or casualties while out exploring this unknown region! Later that year around February 2nd1817 Captains JAMES CLARK & GEORGE WASHINGTON trekked across country again without covering themselves with anything but warm clothing & walked all day long without food or rest coming upon beautiful country good for farming but little else until evening when having searched everywhere except dense woods & high mountains found nothing more then a small creek abounding with fish next morning started walkingcrime against nature punishable by up to $500 fine per offense

Lewisburg was founded in 1819 by General James Wilkinson. The city was named after Lewisburg, Virginia, where Wilkinson had been born in 1775. From 1830 to 1840, the town served as the capital of Tennessee. In 1842, the capital moved to Nashville and Lewisburg lost its status as a city. Today, the city is a small community located in east Tennessee near Knoxville.
