Lewisburg is located in West Tennessee, close to the Kentucky/Tennessee border. The city was founded in 1881 by J.W. Lewis and Wofford County was established within it in 1887. It was founded in 1836 by General John Sowell and his family. Lewisburg is named after Colonel Lewis Morris who served in the Union army during the American Civil War. The first post office in Lewisburg was established on December 8, 1836, by George Witherspoon. The population of Lewisburg grew rapidly due to its location at the junction of two wagon roads and its strategic position as a stop on Interstate 70. By 1860, there were over 100 residents in Lewisburg. In 1865, Colonel John Sowell donated land for a courthouse and jail which now stands adjacent to the library complex on Main Street. In 1870-71, the town built a schoolhouse and several churches including First Baptist Church which still stands today across from the library complex on Main Street. In 1876-77, Revivals swept through Robertson County thanks to Reverend J Farrow’s preaching work done in nearby Tellico City (now Chattanooga). This led to an increase in religious activity among people of all ages which soon caught on with other businesses and citizens alike who started meeting together for religious services outside of regular business hours to discuss social issues such as poverty and education amongst others Reverend Farrow also began conducting funerals for local farmers who had died during agricultural seasons without any major medical attention available back then around this time many people realized that death wasn’t something that could be quickly overcome due to lack of medical knowledge these days however many still died from natural causes . In 1880-81 when another revival hit Robertson County it resulted in what can be called “the Great Migration” with men heading away from rural areas towards larger urban centers such as Nashville After experiencing some success living near large cities he returned home permanently around this time but continue preached both inside and outside ofRobertson County until his death at age 97 years old currently located within downtownLewisburg As towns continued growing throughout eastern Tennessee they needed more public square space so soldiers barracks were built along I-70 between mile marker 9 & 10 sometime around 1920's or 1930's these barracks became known locally as "TheHill" after being used intermittently by military families until their decommissioning in 2006
