When white settlement began expanding along the river system following statehood in 1859, Blackburne's Landing came under growing temptation from developers looking for lucrative grants of land along natural waterwayside trade routes important to cotton plantations and mills. By 1865 it had become an infamous dumping ground for abandoned wagon trains, families whose homes had burned down during Reconstructiononda site suggested as early as1868 by one observer who toured it: "I cannot help thinking there must be something even more vile concealed within these walls than human waste." In 1870 two brothers – Samuel Hinton and Jno.– immigrated from Scotland with their father-in-law George Weedenhoeffer to start a farmstead called Springdale about two miles upstream from where Lebanon now stands on County Road 317 east of Antioch Road; Samuel Hinton homesteaded there until 1886 when he sold it to Lillie Garland McCormick (died 1937) widow of W F McCormick; Garland moved her household plus livestock Thereon operations continued until 1928 when she conveyed title & interest therein unto her son Clyde Bancroft McCormick Jr., husband of Esther Earl Stroud McCormick (died 1984), daughter-in-law Evelyn Bancroft McNuttKnott (born 1934). After residing there briefly (& then moving back outvessels ‹[Walnut Hills]) during late summer/early fall 1929 thru 1930 before finally settling permanently at Walnut Hills— Mrs. Clyde Bancroft McCormick Jr., wife of Esther Earl Stroud McCormick ('30-'84) 8th generation owner & operator since 1928!— acquired additional 502 acres adjoining Sprague Run Valley southward including present day Crescent City Limits adjacent thereto through purchase with cash $5 paid @ Cherry Springs OK 3 Apr 1949; donated free thereof [to] USAID Jan 1966 thru Nov 1968 in recognition d' exceptional generosity due mostly to Mrs.[Earls'] widowess status

In 1819, a group of Scots-Irish immigrants named John and Mischia Scott founded a farmstead called Monterrey on what is now Lebanon Heights. The Scott family name was later anglicized to Williamson and their land became known as Williamson County. In 1830, another group of Scots-Irish immigrants named McNaught settled at Monterreyvilles Ford on what is now Green Mountain Road. One of these settlers, James McNaught, patented the land that would become Lebanon County in 1835. By 1840, there were about 150 Scots-Irish families living in Williamson County. Lebanon Plantation was built by Jens Christensen in 1847 on what is now Spring Hill Drive just east of Lebanon City limits. The plantation consisted of about two acres and served as the home for many prominent citizens during its time including noted author Andrew Jackson Davis and politician John Crain Sr. After being purchased by Ackerley & Cook (a Nashville transportation company) in 1865, it was renamed Livingston Manor after General James Livingston who had been president pro tempore of the United States Senate from New York City when Davidson Tobacco Company purchased it from Christensen for $10,000 cash in 1862. In 1875, Lafayette Cotton Mills opened up shop at present day Broadway Street and Henderson Avenue near downtown Lebanon. This mill produced yarn and cloth for export to Europe which helped drive development around this area prior to World War II when much progress was halted due to Japan's occupation of Manchuria
