Lebanon, Tennessee is a small town in Hardin County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville–Jefferson County, Kentucky–Tennessee Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Lebanon were French traders and missionaries who arrived in 1692. By 1795 the area had become part of Transylvania and by 1800 it was under British rule. In 1801 the United States acquired control of Kentucky from Britain and made Lebanon a county seat. In 1818 Colonel John Boyle founded Boyle's Station on the Cumberland River which became a commercial center for eastern Kentucky and southeastern Tennessee. In 1820 General James Hoggs established Fort Hoggs on land that would later become Lebanon. The fort served as a military post until it was abandoned in 1840 because of its distance from any major settlements and because Native Americans were attacking it regularly. In 1850 George Stephenson built the first railroad through Hardin County and Beirut became one of its stops. Shortly thereafter, other businesses began to spring up around Beirut including flour mills, cotton ginners, livery services, hotels,and stores. Manufacturing also increased with breweries being established in 1865 and 1870; cattle raising followed in 1880; but these activities largely ceased after World War I when industries switched to synthetic fiber production due to new methods of producing filament yarn called lacquer printing technology developed by John Ladd at his company Western Electric company plant located near Nashville . After World War II many refugees settled here seeking political asylum or economic opportunity during the postwar period following conflict across Europe resulting in large numbers of people moving into rural areas throughout America due to war-time shortages of labor resources such as skilled workers needed for munitions manufacturing plants overseas while Americans built homes instead . The town of Lebanon was founded by Elijah Howe in 1811 as a trading post on the Baton Rouge River. In 1815, it became a small village when it included parts of what are now Webster and Clinton counties. The first school in Lebanon was built in 1816. In 1840, the United States acquired land east of Memphis for military purposes and organized it into five independent counties called Middle Tennessee Territory. In 1841, Lebanon became one of these counties and remained so until 1907 when it merged with Jefferson County to form Jackson County. In 1870, an act passed by Congress made Lauderdale County separate from Jackson County and name itself after General Andrew Johnson who had been president at that time. The county seat was moved from Livingston to Nashville in 1909 when the legislature changed its name from Lauderdale to Nashville because that city then served as both county seat and state capital—a distinction which has still not been regained since then (although Nashville has held interim titles). Lebanon is located near Vanderbilt University where students have taken up residence since 1862 during Reconstruction days when white supremacists ruled over black Americans living in Chattanooga and other areas south of Nashville while African Americans were kept behind bars or moving away due to fear they would be lynched if they moved outside those areas (the practice continued until 1990). Today’s students are mainly engineers, entrepreneurs and doctors but some also study musicology or English literature which gives them continuity with their antebellum Roots back home

They arrived in 1799 and named their town after Mount Lebanon, a mountain in Turkey where they had been living before coming to America.
