In 1955, when Interstate 65 was completed through Hardin County, most residents decided they would move away from their small town hub because of both the new highway and larger cities near it such as Knoxville and Chattanooga . However, many people kept close ties to their hometown through special events like corn Maze Day or Homecoming Week each year until about 2000 when things changed again with all-out economic recession starting to take hold across much of Appalachia . Lawrenceburg is a small town located in the eastern portion of Tennessee. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jackson County, Tennessee, Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Lawrenceburg was James Pemberton who arrived in 1815. He and his family were the first to reside there. In 1824, John Wills settled here and founded a cotton gin on what is now Main Street. By 1830, all of the families in town had moved out when a severe drought caused by regional weather patterns led to crop failures. In 1839, General Leatherwood established a military outpost at what is now Fort Dickson after defeating Mexican forces during their attempt to cross the lower Cumberland River into Georgia. The fort served as an important supply stop for Confederate troops during the Civil War. Lawrenceburg residents came together to form a local library in 1909 which they called "The People's Library." The library became operational on Valentine's Day that year and has been serving community members ever since. Today, Lawrenceburg remains an agricultural center with significant manufacturing activities such as cheese production and paper products production among others; however it also retains some vestiges of its pioneer culture with its annual "Pioneer Days" celebration honoring its history and people
The Lawrenceburg community of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee was founded in 1872 by citizens of the town of Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. The town was named for General Ambrose E. Burnside, who fought in the American Civil War and was a general in the Union army. The community grew rapidly after it was established and soon had a population of over 500 residents. In 1902, the town voted to become an incorporated municipality and it remained that way until its annexation by Henderson County in 1907. With its incorporation into Henderson County, Lawrenceburg became part of the larger city of Nashville.
