Lawrenceburg is a small town in Johnson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,459 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis– Nashville– Chattanooga Metropolitan Area. Lawrenceburg is located on the bank of the White River. The first settlement in what is now Lawrenceburg was made by Captain James Robertson in 1795. He and his family built a log cabin on an island in the river. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson passed through this area and ordered Captain Robertson to move his family to Tennessee because he thought they were Native Americans living among them without proper treatment. The captain complied but later claimed he only moved out of respect for Jackson since he had no choice under the law then. In 1815, Colonel John Chilton founded a post office at Lawrenceburg and named it after himself. In 1830, General David Fenton organized the Johnson County Militia and set up camp here to train future officers. A few miles north of where Lawrenceburg now stands, Fenton's encampment still stands today as a museum dedicated to him and his men while they were training local farmers during the early days of American agriculture. Fenton also donated land for a courthouse which was completed in 1832 just south of present day Lawrenceburg Township limits; this courthouse remains standing today as one of only two remaining examples from that time period in America (the other being located in Mobile, Alabama). Around this same time period, another small community called Tellico Village began to form about three miles east of where present day Lawrenceburg now sits; tellico village ceased existence around 1840 when white settlers arrived and started building their homes elsewhere within Johnson County). The growth along White River banks throughout these years led to increased demand for resources needed for farming such as water rights and lumber transportation; both these factors have been key players in helping make Lawrencesburgh thrive over the years despite difficult challenges including floods (a common occurrence during Arkansas drought periods) that destroyed several homes along with crops late into the 20th century. Accordingly, many businesses have arisen around downtownLawrenceburgh since its founding including two commercial breweries – Great Western Brewing Company & Diamond Head Brewery – dating back To 1893 when both companies were established by brothers Alonzo & Abram Goldstein who operated them until their closure circa 1978/79 due to Prohibition-era economically crippling regulations affecting brewers at that time; as well as numerous restaurants/cafes/bars dotting every inch of downtown streetscape currently serving up delicious Tennessean cuisine year-round some 100plus establishments strong!
