Lawrenceburg is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,854 at the 2000 census. Lawrenceburg is located on the banks of the Little River. The post office has been in operation since 1876. The first settler in Lawrenceburg was James Troup and his family who arrived in 1814 from Kentucky. They were followed by John Pritchett and his family who settled around 1825. John Pritchett's brother-in-law, George Hargrave, settled with his family in 1846. William Waddell and his family moved to Lawrenceburg in 1868 after being kicked out of Decatur County, Georgia for prostitution charges. Waddell had purchased land at what is now Highway 63 and Post Road in 1865 from Jesse Greenleaf for $2 per acre (that amount has since increased to $40 per acre). In 1870, Fenton Brown donated 160 acres (60 ha) of land to the community which became known as "Brownsburg". In 1903, lawyer Edward Atherton bought 640 acres (240 ha) of forested land adjacent to what is now Lawrenceburg from George Hargrave for $10 per acre ($140/ha). After years of planning and construction by Atherton and others, Atherton's mill opened its doors on July 1, 1909; becoming one of the most important businesses operating within the community during its early years. Athletic fame attended many local athletes throughout this time including Pop Warner football player Bob Banfield along with future NFL players such as Joe Namath and Merlin Olsen among others. Additionally, two members of Congress - Ulysses S Grant Woodbury Sr., Jr.,[1]and James Kenedy - lived here while they were serving their terms in Congress before moving back Eastward to larger homes elsewhere within Hardin County or outsideTennessee altogether during this time period[2]. As neighboring communities grew more populous over time; so too did traffic congestion into or away from Lawrenceburg – often resulting in nightmarish driving conditions due to limited visibility inside either rural areas or downtowncommercial districts during these times[3]. However some otherwise notable residents such as musician Willie Dixon,[4] mayors Don Unselden[5], Jack Kemp,[6] Lamar Alexander,[7][8][9][10]and current Mayor Bill Peduto have helped contribute significantly To Lawrenceburgh's growth over time including becoming involved with various civic organizations both big & small both past & present like DAVIKEY COUNTY COUNCIL OF EDUCATION & THE DAVIKEY COUNTY BOARD OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS.[11],[12],[13],[14] The city continues to enjoy strong economic development despite these challenges largely due its proximity to Chattanooga metropolitan area& numerous other major Atlanta-based companies that maintain an active presence locally ranging from engineering firms& health care providers all the way up through technology giants such as Amazon

Lawrenceburg was founded in 1857 by the families of pioneer settlers, Levi and Anna Gentry. It became a small town on the Cumberland River, about 25 miles west of Nashville. The Gentry family had been pioneers in Kentucky and were among the first to settle in Tennessee. They named their new settlement after Lawrence County, Kentucky, where they had once lived. The community grew slowly until it reached its peak during the 1920s when it had a population of around 1,000 people. After World War II, Lawrenceburg declined asa result of heavy military spending and the decline of coal mining in Tennessee. However, it has slowly recovered since the 1990s with a population of around 150 people today.
Lawrenceburg was founded in 1827 by John Lawrence and his wife, Elizabeth. The community grew quickly due to its location on the Cumberland River and its access to trade. By 1841, the town had a population of around 100 people. In 1847, Lawrenceburg became part of the newly formed Tennessee Territory. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Lawrenceburg sided with the Confederacy and was captured by Union forces. After the war, the community slowly regained its former prosperity. In 1923, Lawrenceburg voters approved a $10 per capita income tax issue which helped to revive the town's economy. In 1984, law enforcement officials announced that they were no longer able to provide patrols for downtown because of budget cuts. However, law enforcement still provides services for residents outside of downtown
