Lawrenceburg is a small town in Cooke County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,854 at the 2010 census. Lawrenceburg is known for its optical accessories industry and for being the birthplace of American Optical Industries (AOI). AOI is a major retailer of optical products in the United States. The history of optical accessories began with two men who bought an old farm on which to build their business. Frank Waddell and his brother-in-law, Ole Hargrave, founded American Optical Industries in 1932 as a manufacturer of electronic equipment and other sundry items used in sightseeing and photography. In 1951 AOI became one of the first companies to sell eyeglasses complete with lenses and frames through independent merchants across America. It continued selling glasses until it merged with Bausch & Lomb in 1986. In 1982, AOI opened its new headquarters building on Main Street in Lawrenceburg – one of only four such buildings located within 500 miles of any major city in the U.S., at that time; this made it possible for the company to grow rapidly both geographically and culturally while staying true to its core values:quality products, customer service excellence, sustainable practices

Hardin and his family, who named it for their home state of Kentucky. The community began to grow after being designated as the site for the new county seat in 1868. Commerce grew rapidly due to its location just outside of Nashville on State Route 778, which led to increased traffic and development around the town center. In 1924, when Nashville became Tennessee's capital city, Lawrenceburg became one of several cities within that city's limits that received their own special designation - "capital city suburb." This status changed only slightly in 2009 when Nashville merged with Davidson County to form the current TNCapital region; however, Lawrenceburg retains its capital city suburb designation and is now one of eight municipalities within thatRegion (the other seven are Smyrna, Murfreesboro, Gallatin Hills, Cookeville, Madisonville,, Lebanon,[1], faithwood[2]and Frankfort).[3] Lawrenceburg contains many historic buildings dating back to its early days as a small rural community: The old courthouse (rebuilt in 1910) has been used as an apartment building since 2006; two churches built between 1865 and 1870 still stand; and numerous others from before 1861 remain standing or have been renovated or replaced entirely. One local legend holds that no less than nine cannons were once stored at nearby Fort Donelson until they were destroyed during World War II; these cannons may be seen inside what was once Fort Donelson's arsenal complex today.[4] In recent years much effort has been made by both residents and non-residents alike to keep downtown core vibrant with Arts & Entertainment events such as music festivals/shows/comedies/, art exhibits/movies/, etc.; there have even been plans underway for restaurant/cafeteria conversions into live music venues[5][6]). While some aspects have not yet met expectations (such as lack of nightlife), overall Lawrenceburg appears poised for continued growth over time – providing hope forqiues such as educational opportunities available through various partnerships with nearby colleges including Vanderbilt University[7][8], plus job opportunities available through various businesses present within the downtown core itself.[9][10]

Lawrenceburg was founded by General James Wilkinson in 1826 as a trading post on the Cumberland River. The town site was surveyed in 1827 by Wilkinson and David Prentice. In 1828, Wilkinson named it after himself and his brother-in-law, Sir John Lawrence of London. The first store in Lawrenceburg opened on November 11, 1828, operated by J.P. Richardson and his son-in-law Wm Hinton (the future Mayor of Knoxville). By 1830, there were six stores in the community; one each for William Hinton (the future Mayor), Nathaniel Sibley (a farmer), Gideon Blackman (a carpenter), John Wright (a tailor), and Abraham Thomson (an attorney). In 1830–31, the state legislature built the first courthouse inTennessee at nearby Mockingbird Hillock; this building served as court house until 1966 when it was replaced by the current courthouse Complex which opened in 1997. The old courthouse burned down in 1951 but was rebuilt with an addition designed by architect Tom Bradley and contractor Gilchrist & Bechtel Inc.. The new courthouse complex is located on State Route 601 south of downtown Lawrenceburg about two miles from Interstate 65 exits I-15/I-24/exit 191A/exit 190B/Exit 241B off US Highway 24. In 1840–41, General James Wilkinson bought 6 lots adjoining present day Main Street to build what would become known as "Wilkinson's Roundabout." This roundabout incorporated features from other early pioneer settlements such as Clarksville and Lebanon – including a central square with a tower and clocktower – while also featuring its own jail cells for local criminals awaiting trial or sentencing outside ofKnoxville confinement inside Lawrencesburgh Jail complex until 1865 when that structure burned down also becoming permanently destroyed due to arson six years later...
