From this store, many rifle manufacturers and gunsmiths established shop presence in the town. In 1840, a post office was established in Lawrenceburg and guns continued to be purchaser items until the Second World War when they were replaced by ammunition. In 1853, John Dickson opened his own blacksmith shop in nearby Florence. This business later became known as Dickson Forge & Arms which still exists today as a family-owned business with over 60 years of experience. Lawrenceburg is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,418 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is named after General David Lawrence, who fought in the American Revolution and later served as a brigadier general in the Confederate Army during the war. Lawrenceburg was founded by Yankees who took up arms against the British in 1775. The first settler was John Auld, who arrived in 1776. He named his land for General Lawrence, who had died that year while fighting for independence from Great Britain. The first post office was established at Lawrenceburg on October 11, 1817; it was discontinued in 1823 because of competition from nearby Memphis. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has had no resident residents since 2000.(1) Lawrenceburg grew rapidly due to its location near two powerful cotton plantations: Pickwick Plantation and Belle Isle Plantation. Early settlers were prosperous planters with large fields and many slaves; however, this prosperity ceased when slave trade became illegal throughout much of America following the end of slavery in 1865. In 1870, one-third of all adults living in Hardin County were illiterate; by 1910 only about 10% were literate.(2) In 1840s and 1850s there existed a Kindergarten and First Grade School located here today known as "Old Hickory" schoolhouse & Mrs Hamm's Chapel which closed down around 1960 but some photos still exist inside old building

Lawrenceburg is a town in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Johnson City Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now includes Lawrenceburg was first settled by people who came overland from Kentucky in the early 1800s. By 1820, Lawrenceburg had a school and two churches. In 1832, the town was platted and named for General John Pemberton, who had helped to drive Native Americans from their land in what is now eastern Tennessee. In 1842, General James K. Polk sent troops to Lawrenceburg to quell a slave insurrection which had started there two years earlier. The fighting lasted several weeks and resulted in about 100 deaths on both sides. After the battle, many freedmen moved into Lawrenceburg and began to rebuild its infrastructure (such as a courthouse). A store opened soon after and became one of the largest in town until it burned down in 1865. In 1890, Julius Rosenwald founded Rosenwald Brothers Clothing Company here in what is today downtown Lawrenceburg with his brother Alfred Rosenwald Sr.. The company continued growing through the 1920s and 1930s thanks to local demand for its clothing products (especially leather goods), along with importation of American-made clothes from Europe via railroads during those days In 1936, Rosenwald donated all his holdings within his company including 5 million shares of stock valued at $15 million ($ when bought) to help finance Franklin D Roosevelt’s New Deal programs ) That same year saw the opening of law enforcement headquarters for Payne County which stood on 15 acres then leased back by Rosenwald Brothers until 1959 when it was moved across town (to continue serving Payne County until 1957) In 1948-1949 donations enabled construction of new high school facilities following an agreement between Mayor William Humes and Drury College president Wm Humes . These buildings were completed just prior to Knoxville's annexation into city limits . With more than 2200 residents by 1950-1951Lawrenceburg's heyday seemed behind her; however she staged a comeback during this time as various small businesses grew quickly due to inexpensive shipping rates established by mail order companies routed through Knoxville
