The name of the post office was changed to Lawrenceburg in 1907. The present town hall was built in 1959 and replaced an earlier building that had been destroyed by fire. In addition to the town hall, there are two churches - First Baptist Church and Second Baptist Church - as well as a few businesses including a grocery store, mechanic shop, bank and insurance agency.

Lawrenceburg is a small community in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Lawrenceburg is part of the Nashville metropolitan area. The town of Lawrenceburg was founded by David Herrington in 1805. It was called "Harrisonburgh" after Major General Andrew Harrison's headquarters during the War for Independence. In 1827, the original town plat was amended to add the word "Lawrenceburg." The name change came about because of a dispute between two families that had owned land adjoining the town square. The Hollidays owned most of what is now Lawrenceburg and wanted to rename it "Harrisonburgh," while the Richardsons objected to being given an inferior name. Eventually, both sides compromised and changed their minds and allowed their opponents to keep using their old names until they could come up with a new one themselves. The first settler in Lawrenceburg was James Caldwell who arrived in 1824 from Ohio. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and named it Caldwellsville after his home state. Other early settlers included John Hardison (1829-1906), Lewis Caldwell (1830-1915), Isaac Bates (1831-1920), Hiram Thompson (1833-1916), Ebenezer Cummings (came by ship from Massachusetts in 1835), Daniel Garland (brought over as indentured servant in 1840) and Israel Pemberton (1797-1857). All these men were farmers or mechanics who worked on plantations or farms outside of Tennessee when they arrived in this area which had been vacated by many slaves during the American Civil War due to military action or freedom seekers escaping into Union territory along with all their equipment, foodstuffs, animals and slaves! These pioneers were instrumental in building what is now known as downtown Lawrenceburg which began as just a few houses around Main Street with some stores added over time including Griggs & Hardison’s store which opened on November 7th 1830 anchored by an old post office back then! This establishment served as a flour millinery business until 1861 when it became McLaughlin’s grocery! One can still see remnants of this structure today across from First Baptist Church located off US Highway 421 just north of junction 21A! There were also several other stores/grocery businesses opened up throughout downtown during its early years such as Gentry’s Store operated by Wm Gentry Sr., Majestic Grocery Incorporated Opened By Jno Patton And His Sons Who Became Famous Merchants In Their Own Right Which Is Located At Five Points Plaza On Old Hickory Rd A Short distance North Of Downtownlawrenceburgh Aftermoving Out OfCity Limits But Opened Up Here For All To Enjoy Which MakesIt Still An interesting Place To Visit Today!. . . Lawrenceburg was founded in 1818 by General James H. Lawrence and his wife Sarah. The town was named for the battle of Monterey, which took place near present-day Lawrenceburg on October 7, 1818. The town first sprang up around a small log cabin called "The Old Fort" on the eastern edge of the community. In 1830, the first courthouse in Lawrenceburg was built, and in 1838, a school was established. By 1870, there were more than fifty homes in Lawrenceburg. The population declined during the late 1800s and early 1900s as new businesses closed down or moved away. However, after World War I hit Lawrenceburg hard with war Veterans returning home from abroad, the community revived and grew again throughout the 1920s and 1930s thanks to various social programs and economic development that arrived from nearby Clarksville.
