In 1821, when the Tennessee Valley Railroad arrived in search of new land to build tracks through the area, Lawrenceburg became one of its first communities along the line. The town quickly grew into a bustling commercial hub with stores and businesses catering to both local residents and travelers alike. At its peak during this time, Lawrenceburg boasted more than 20 buildings and boasted 2 churches – both built within a few years of each other. But although Lawrenceburg enjoyed some success during its heyday, it would eventually fall victim to several factors that would ultimately harm it: The Panic of 1837 caused widespread deflation across western America; Union troops burned down many homes in downtown after their victory at Antietam; disease killed many residents in1849-50;and finally raids by Confederate cavalry forced many people out of their homes in 1865-66 following General Robert E Lee’s Advance into Tennessee Valley Campaign (aka Battle for Memphis). Today much that once characterized this vibrant community is gone – but that doesn’t mean that interest in learning about it has dissipated completely!
