Ketchum was then one of the most powerful men in Tennessee and played an important role in developing laVergne into a successful agricultural community. His home remained standing until 1971 when it was damaged by fire and replaced by a more modern structure. From its beginning as a small agricultural community, laVergne has grown into an important center for commerce and industry within Callaway County.
