The company was started as a result of the efforts of Mr. Carrigan's father-in-law, John Siever, who had emigrated to America from Germany in 1868. By 1888, Mr. Siever had established himself as one of the leading rifle manufacturers in America and his son George became associated with him. In 1890, George P. Carrigan moved his business to La Vergne and continued to produce high quality riflescopes under the name "Carrigan & Sons." The company prospered until 1912 when it merged with anothergunmaker, Wm. Condon & Sons., Incorporated (WC&S). WC&S continued to make quality riflescopes until 1957 when it merged with Leupold Industries, Incorporated (LI).
La Vergne is a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. La Vergne is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. It is the only incorporated municipality in Hardin County and the second largest community in Chattanooga after Middletown. The first post office in La Vergne was established on October 3, 1868, by order of Governor John Bell and it became an incorporated municipality on February 14, 1870. The name was derived from a nearby stream called "Vergin Creek". The first store to open in La Vergne was the "Green Gables" grocery store which operated from 1872-1875. In 1865 John Hargrave built a sawmill on what is now known as River Road just east of Main Street; this mill continued to be used until 1898 when it went out of business. In 1902 Methodist Episcopal Church opened its doors for worship with Reverend J.C. White officiating at its dedication ceremonies; this church served as both the town's primary meeting place and church until 1955 when it moved to its current location off University Drive northeast of town center (now within city limits). Prior to this time services were held at various locations around town including what is now Springdale Elementary School and First Baptist Church which had been built earlier that year adjacent to modern day GreenGables Inn on Elmwood Avenue across from River Road/Main Street intersection where services also took place for many years before finally moving into their present location in 1951 In 1960s two new schools were built: Chatman Middle School (opened 1962) and Griggs Junior High School (opened 1969). These schools replaced original schoolhouses which were destroyed by fire during Hurricane Andrew while still under construction but all students except those inside Chatman Middle School graduated from these schools prior to their opening date A water tower located southeast of town complex began serving residents there beginning service on March 26th, 1924; however due largely to difficulties connecting numerous wells located throughout township with the tower facility significant repairs had to be made over time culminating with full replacement operations completed in 1975 When complete tap water became available for all residents statewide a new $1 million engineering project designed by engineers starchitects McGraw Hill resulted in increased efficiency double stacked gassed tanks installed along with associated piping systems consisting of more than 2400 feet long main pipeline carrying fresh cool water directly into homes without need for tanker or truck runs
