LaVergnene Manufacturing Company has been manufacturing cloth, belts, towels, truck parts, plastics and other products since 1870. In 2013, the company announced it would close its doors after more than 150 years in business. Today, there are only a few remaining employees of the company who work at its plant on Broadway Street. The history of La Vergne goes back to 1876 when John J. LaVergnane came to Hamilton County with his parents from Vermont. He started a cotton gin in a roadside cabin near where he now lives and began producing textiles from woolen fabric brought over by travelers along the Great Western Trail. By 1900, there were five looms working at the factory and more than 1 million pounds of cloth were produced each year! In 1913, Mr. Lavergnane donated land to build an additional plant which would become home to many local businesses including a grocery store and bank; today’s shopping center occupies that site! From here we can see continued production throughout World War II as well as postwar periods when local mills made truck parts for General Motors or Ford Motor Company plants all over America! When the war ended, lavergnanes stopped making cloth but kept making truck parts until their closure in 2003! And then came 2006 when they reopened their old mill on Broadway Street with new equipment designed specifically for this purpose- just like their ancestor’s did centuries ago! Today’s residents of La Vergne are proud members of our community and continue to produce tomatoes hand-in-hand with their families since 1876! There is still something special about being able to pick your own fruit from your garden orchard right outside your door – whether you’re eating fresh diced tomatoes or packing them up for storage (our older style tomato cages allow us this flexibility!). We enjoy spending time at our annual Tomato Festival which takes place during late July/early August each year – just like way back when! La Vergne is a small town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,608 at the 2010 census. La Vergne is located in the eastern part of Sevier County and lies on the banks of the river Cumberland. It is bordered by Scotsboro to the north-west, Murfreesboro to the east-south-east, and Dutch Fork to the south. The first white settler in La Vergne was George W. Smith who arrived in 1807. The town was named for General Lafayette which was also its original location on what is now Welsh Lane near French's Ferry Road. In 1815 John Gentry sold land between Welsh Lane and Frenchman Ferry Road to James Lillis and his brother Charles Lillis who founded La Verna Academy in 1821; both men were natives of Pennsylvania. The first school building was a log cabin which burned down in 1865 but soon replaced by a frame structure that still stands today. In 1827 David Stephenson bought 640 acres (252 hectares) of land northwest of La Verna from James Lillis for $4,000 cash; Stephenson had acquired it as part of his purchase from Gentry two years earlier. He built an estate on this property known as "Chateau de lavergnée" or "White House". His wife Sophia helped him build many features such as a chapel and gardens which remain today including a main house with staff quarters aboveground and underground levels beneath it – one of only three such structures remaining in Tennessee from the 1830s through into recent decades In 1840 John Pritchard settled on land around present day Springtown which he called Ballintyne Plantation after his ancestor Captain Robert Ballintyne who emigrated from Ireland circa 1690 He began ownership of this tract of land at least six years before it became known as La Verna Creek Township when it formed part of Sevier Township effective January 1st, 1847 .Pritchard died circa 1850 while attempting cross country travel through what are now Knoxville and Chattanooga Valley looking for mineral rights under Knob Hill Mountain west of present day Peachtree City By chance while exploring these areas he discovered coal seams exposed along creek beds about 6 miles upstream from where he found them After mining several mines over several months during early 1850s he returned home exhausted having made little progress despite generous bribes received by local officials . He immediately organized local investors to lease these coal seams back to him with interest payments contingent upon production until their exhaustion occurred some time after 1860 When production ceased due mostly to competition from anthracite Coal fields adjacent to Whitesburg Passage Coal Mine operated by Smithfield Coal Company development resumed primarily because transportation costs increased making shipping available additional infrastructure necessary for continued mine operation
In 1814, the city of La Vergne was founded on the east side of the Tennessee River. The town was named for General James LaVergne, who had fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as a U.S. Senator from Georgia. In 1821, La Vergne became a county seat of Davidson County and its population grew to over 10,000 people by 1830. By 1860, La Vergne had become an important manufacturing center with businesses such as cotton ginners, flour mills, wagon factories and machine shops located along Main Street. On December 12, 1860, La Vergne became the first municipality in Tennessee to be incorporated as a city. The city's growth continued through the 1870s and 1880s with rapid growth in both its population and economy; by 1890, LaVergne had reached its peak population of around 30,000 people. However, during the late 19th century political instability caused by competing interests within lavergnate led to economic decline and social collapse culminating in the 1893 Nashville Race Riot which resulted in more than 100 injuries and two fatalities
