In La Vergne, Tennessee, the first gun pouches were made in 1868. The first guns to be carried with these pouches were shotguns. Gun owners would put their weapons in these pouches and take them on walks around town. This was a way for people to protect themselves fromative shootings. These early gun pouches also had straps that went around the outside of them so they could be closely strapped to the body like modern day fashion bags. The popularity of handguns began to increase in La Vergne in the 1920s, and by 1928, the city council had passed a law requiring all pistols carrying more than six rounds to be stored unloaded and locked up inside a manufacturer’s approved holster or case. In 1934, La Vergne became one of only two cities (the other being Memphis) within Tennessee that enacted an ordinance regulating pistol carry by handgun owners. Gun ownership continued to grow throughout the 1930s and 1940s as pickups started becoming more common on Main Street in La Vergne. People would drive down Main Street handing out pistols for collection by various members of the community who enjoyed hunting and shooting at local game muskets dating back to pre-civilian days when firearms were used primarily for personal protection purposes such as self-defense and ceremonial functions such as marriages and funerals. The NRA was founded in 1871, making it one of America’s oldest organizations fighting for Second Amendment rights dating back to before ratification of the Constitution! A number of gun clubs were formed throughout La Vergne during this time period; many thanks go out to history buff Mr./Ms. Johnnie Rayburn who donated numerous items from his extensive collection related specifically thereto including several revolvers which he later displayed at our annual rifle show at Huber Heights High School where we exhibited his wonderful piece circa 1984!

Other attractions include two churches (St John's Episcopal Church and First Baptist Church), two shopping malls (Hilton Head Mall and Walmart), four parks (Lakewood Park II – home to world-renowned golf course operated by PGA TOUR member Tiger Woods; Decatur Parks & Recreation Center; West Side Park), five schools (Benton High School; Lamar Consolidated Schools District #1; Lamar Consolidated Schools District #2; Smith Academy; Presbyterian School), three professional sports teams - the Tennessee Titans football team formerly based in nearbyKnoxville before moving to their current facility in neighboringMtn View Hills; The Memphis Grizzlies basketball team formerly based in neighbouringDecatur before moving to new headquarters nearChattanooga) as well as numerous smaller businesses including six ATMs total and two pawn shops/merchants along Main Street USA serving both local residents and tourists alike. In recent years LaVergnate has seen several thousand visitors from all over the United States who come for various events connected with its rich history including company meetings, art shows, Renaissance Faire celebration etc., making it one of busiest tourist destinations around hereabouts!

Many local businesses thrived during this time including A&P grocery store (now part of Kroger), banks (First National Bank & Trust Company and PeoplesBank), auto parts stores (Gold Nugget Garage & Supply Co.), a movie theater (The Varsity Theater), flowers (Luana's Flowershop), and several restaurants including The Palazzo which still exists today. In recent decades, however, La Vergne has seen some decline both economically and socially due to various factors such as loss of jobs within the local manufacturing sector, lack of development opportunities nearby, competition from larger cities throughout Tennessee for job seekers, etcetera. However despite these challenges, many positive aspects remain about this small town - such as its close-knit community spirit; scenic beauty; historical period buildings; vibrant downtown scene; diverse population; continuous cultural attractions brought about by its residents; etcetera.
