Their goal was to provide customers with an easy way to hold their targets without having them fall off or get damaged during shooting sessions. The open frame model proved more popular than the closed frame model; however, due to its popularity Ewing & Company was forced out of business in 1916 by competition from companies such as Brownells and Winchester Firearms Corporation (later renamed Winchester). Kingsport is a city in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson metropolitan area. Kingsport was founded in 1851 by General James White and other settlers from Kentucky. The city was named after Confederate general Robert E. Lee because he had fought there during the American Civil War. In 1865, Kingsport became the capital of Tennessee after Jefferson City was destroyed by Union troops during the war. In 1881, Kingsport became an agricultural center due to its location on the Cumberland River Valley between Lebanon and Decatur counties. The flour mill built in 1903 went out of business in the 1920s but has been restored and now operates as a museum; it also produces cornmeal for feed mills throughout central Tennessee.
