Kingsport, Tennessee is a town in the Knox County, Tennessee region. The population was 12,423 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chattanooga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by James K. Polk in 1853 as Kingsport Landing on the banks of the Cumberland River. In 1875, it became a county seat and remained so until 1971 when it was moved to nearby Chattanooga. In 1847, General Andrew Jackson's army passed through Kingsport on their way to defeat Gen Andrew Johnson at Monmouth Court House. The area now known as Kingsport has been populated for centuries by both white settlers and Native Americans who lived there before European settlement began. French traders and missionaries came to the area in the early 1800s and started trading with Indians along with selling goods such as fur coats and cannons to them. By 1830, about 120 families lived here including 54 Scots-Irish farmers who had come over from Ireland to work in this new land called America (now Kentucky). After Indian Removal ended in1845, some of these Scots-Irish farmers decided they wanted revenge on their former enemies by moving into what is now Kingsport and starting a new village called Clover Hill which later became known as Hickory Hill because of its abundance of hickories (a type of oak tree). This group of farmers were also known as "The Old Hickory Boys." They were successful at farming but didn't like being around other people so they built themselves some homes near present day downtown Kingston upon Thames (then just outside Ofcrest) where today's Midtown Mall stands. This period in history is important because it marked whenKingsport got its name from King James II who reigned over Scotland from 1707-1725 according to one source The town was originally named after King James I who died without an heir in 1702 which led his brother William IV to succeed him however he only ruled for four years due to problems with Europe being unsettled during that time period So James II give his new kingdom/country/nation/state name To John Knox III thereby giving us our current name “Kings Port” or more properly “Kingston Upon Thames” Because we live on river then king does technically! Many believe that this towns founder - James K Polk - may have chosen this name because he saw himself living near what would become Chattanooga where he had business interests although no evidence supports this theory

Today's park features more than 350 acres (160 hectares) of land including parts of historically significant towns such as Elizabethtown and Whitesburg along with many modern amenities such as a golf course, waterfalls and lakeside communities. Kingsport has been host to several auto races over the years including NASCAR's Grand National 400 race which took place here in 2003; World Rallycross' Champion Stirling Moss raced here in 1973; Indy Racing League drivers Danica Patrick and Tony Kanaan have both raced in this event; Muskegon Lumberjacks Baseball Club played their home games here from 1913 until 1978; professional wrestler Triple H visited October 16th 1998 while performing at Gadsden Arena; 7-time NBA champion Shaquille O'Neal filmed skirmishes between Miami Heat players Dwyane Wade & Chris Bosh at this site during Game 6 Of The 2006 Finals series against Miami Heat -Kingsport Civic Center also hosted televised debates between George W Bush & John Kerry before their respective election victories that year
