Kingsport is a city in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 11,883 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County. The city was founded on July 4, 1867 by General James H. Knox and named after Kingdom ofTennessee founder John Caddo King. Kingsport's rich history can be found from its founding as a small town on the banks of the Cumberland River to its current role as an major commercial and transportation center for southeast Tennessee and much of central Alabama.
