Kingsport is a town in Knox County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Knox County. Kingsport was founded by James Fenton and named for his father, John Fenton. On July 20, 1819, Colonel William Troup of the First Tennessee Infantry Regiment arrived in Kingsport with six hundred men and began construction on what would become one of the largest cotton plantations in America. In 1824–25, King Cotton's first crop was grown here and this became one of the most important slave-producing regions of Mississippi Valley society. The town's economy changed significantly when railroads were built throughKnox County in the early 19th century; Kingsport became a key transportation hub for eastern Tennesseans traveling to Southeastern Kentucky and Ohio. The arrival of automobiles also had an impact on Kingsport as it became a major center for automotive manufacturing during World War II. After the war, Kingsport experienced rapid growth as more people moved into the area due to new technological advances such as television and satellite services; however, today there is still some evidence of traditional industry such as textile mills that continue to operate in downtown Kingsport.

Since 1985 Kingsport has been home to Navy Reserve Components headquarters known as "The Depot" located on Battleship Bayou off US 41 near where Confederate General Robert Eanes fought his last battle against Ulysses S Grant's army before he surrendered at Appomattox Court House in 1865 - thus helping make possible America's entry into World War II (emphasis added). In 1902, John Dickson formed Dickson Paper Company to produce paper products such as Checks and Notes from local logs grown near his paper mills in rural areas of central Tennessee including Kingsport. From this beginnings until 1916 when he merged his company into Dow Chemical Company, Dickson spent lavishly advocating for better management of local resources within his community while also expanding production beyond what was necessary to support local demand; he helped spur construction of new schools, hospitals and other public buildings throughout Anderson County during these years Since World War II various businesses have taken root here - many becoming global icons such as IBM mainframe research lab followed by UPS trucking terminals which house over 100 companies today employing over 60000 people across fourteen counties The current economic state of affairs has seen some consolidation but much job growth overall given that Hawkins International Inc., one of America’s largest shipping containers manufacturers employs 30000 workers nationally Kingsport is located directly on I-24 Exit 191A off Interstate 24 just south of downtown Chattanooga; making it easily accessible both from eastbound traffic heading towards Atlanta or westbound traffic travelling to Memphis or Knoxville As well as being centrally located between all four major US cities it offers excellent access to all types of outdoor activities whether you're looking for fishing or hiking/biking trails available right outside your door
