The store was also responsible for starting the first BB shooting competition in Kingstown, Tennessee in 1886. In 1897, Hargrave donated his entire collection of shotguns to the town of Kingsport as a memorial to his predecessors at Guns & Ammo. At this time,Kingsport had become an important center for shotgun production and shooting. Many famous shooters from around the country frequented Kingsport during these years including Buffalo Bill Cody and Sam Houston.

Kingsport is a town in Sullivan County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 8,079 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Sullivan County and home to the Kingsport Municipal Airport. The Kingsport Historic District covers much of downtown and is a registered National Historic Landmark. Kingsport was founded in 1794 by General James Wilkinson as a small trading post on the Cumberland River. He named it for his older brother, King George Washington's father-in-law and namesake of Mount Vernon, Virginia. The post office moved to its present site in 1811. In 1814, Wilkinson built a sawmill on the river near what is now downtown Kingsport and began producing lumber. A grist mill followed in 1820; this became the first flour mill in west Tennessee. A hospital was built in 1829; it closed in 1907 but has been restored and is now used as a museum. In 1840, John Capps organized what would become known as the Volunteer Cavalry Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers during the American Civil War for service under General Ulysses S Grant when he was commanding officer of Union forces south of Corinth, Mississippi Territory (now Alabama). Confederate General Robert Ewell invaded central Tennessee during September 1861 and attempted an attack on Knoxville but was driven back without loss by Union troops under Maj.-Gen Henry Hethmonslay Jr.. After Union forces destroyed Fort Donelson east of Nashville on November 12–13, 1862—the largest military victory against Confederate armies up until that time—Ewell decided to abandon his plans for an assault on Knoxville and withdrew northeastward along US Route 65 towards Chattanooga rather than risk frontal assaults against numerically superior Union forces garrisoned at Fort Donelson or across open Knoxville Lake from where they could be attacked from all sides simultaneously like Sherman's Atlanta Campaign Offensive had demonstrated two years earlier! In 1865 following Johnson's Emancipation Proclamation which ended slavery throughout most of America (excepting Memphis), many slaves living within reach of freedom left their masters voluntarily or were forced into freedom by violence or death threats from their former owners/laborators who were still held responsible for their well-being while awaiting decision about whether to sell them into slavery or free them outright. Many men enlisted in local militias to help protect freedmen including Captain John Fenton who served with distinction at First Bull Run (1861) and Second Bull Run (1862), Lieutenant Colonel James Burchfield who fought at Shiloh (1865) and Battle Creek Bridge (1865), Sergeant Major Augustus Thornton who fought at Chickamauga (1863)andato duty with Andrew Johnson's new national military force called "The Freedmen’s Bureau" supervised by field officers appointed by President Andrew Johnson himself with representation from northern states represented among bureau members also serving terms extending beyond end October 1865 finally concluding abolitionism movement components such as black soldiers being accepted into white units commanded by successful African Americans such as West Point graduate Gabrielle Gifford leading Ulysses S Grant's army during campaigns against Vicksburg [ Mississippi] & Chattanooga [Tennessee] After Reconstruction ended following America's major slave rebellion led by Rebel Africa American general Robert Ewell it became necessary for both newly emancipated blacks and whites to integrate gradually into society prior to any massive social upheaval erupting resulting primarily from constitutional amendments proposed nationally via Congress setting limits on voting rights granted Blacks majority status beginning December 6th 1870 eventually ending Jim Crow segregation laws enacted statewide following riots & protests taking place mainly around state capital Little Rock Arkansas evolving into African American bastion city dubbed "KNOXVILLE" described below originally established circa1800s Black pioneer families relocated there settling initially around creek mouth adjacent later becoming Downtown area lining shoreline then becoming residential areas today Brownstonians removed signifying end exclusive white settlement facing inland waters today numerous churches remain standing indicating community spirit continuing through most recent intergenerational exchange

Kingsport is a town in Marshall County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The town was founded in 1853 by Colonel John Custer and his fellow officers from the Seventh Cavalry Regiment as a post on the Cumberland Trail. The first store opened in 1854 and early settlers built homes near the present-day train station. By 1860, Kingsport had a school, Baptist church, Methodist Chapel, four stores and forty-six residents. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Nashville to attend lemonsfestand select General Joe Johnston as Commander-in-Chief of all Union forces in Tennessee. After being introduced to Grant by Senator John Sherman of Chicago,[1] Johnston decided to remain in Kingsport and ordered his men not to leave until they received orders from General Grant himself. In 1870–71 King'sport became one of six towns (along with Decatur, Illinois; Greeneville, Tennessee; Heidelberg Springs Junction Railroad Depot; Springdale Township; Springfield Township) that formed what is now known as the Memphis & Nashville Railroad Company[2][3] because it leased land east of Memphis for railroad construction between those two cities.[4] The company completed its tracks through Kingsport on January 1, 1875.[5] That same year saw another milestone when King's portico was erected at the new depot which served as both headquarters for operations out of Memphis and also provided temporary storage for incoming goods during construction projects elsewhere around town.[6][7][8] On May 3rd 1889,[9] James Waggoner was elected Mayor after defeating incumbent Pemberton Henson by over 100 votes at an election held following Reconstruction laws that disenfranchised most African Americans in Tennessee due to state policies favoring white education over black education[10]. From 1890 until prohibitionist laws were passed in 1919 making alcohol illegal throughout most of America,[11][12], Kingsport experienced various waves of immigration: Italians (beginning 1925); Poles (1930s through 1940s); Germans (1950s through 1960s); Dutch people from Rotterdam (1960s through 1970s)[13]; Haitians during their second wave after Hurricane Hugo destroyed much Hispaniola within days (1972).[14]; Koreans during their first wave beginning prior to 1965 when theirorean community began developing nearby Chattanooga thanks to refugees who had fled South Korea during World War II[15]. Kingsport's economy has been based largely on agriculture since its founding while manufacturing has grown recently due to advances made within transportation technology including trucking and internet sales.[16][17]:2 Its downtown center contains several historic buildings dating back to before 1800 such as courthouse building No. 2 which served as court house until 1907,[18]:1 local blacksmith shop Building A which still stands today along with other associated structures such asthe old Masonic Temple No. 5 built about 1892[19]:1 Samuel Morse House located across Main Street from courthouse firehouse which traces its origins back even further pre-dating Bacon’s Tavern [20]:1 According to legend there once lived a witch named Mrs Gertrude who used her powersWalking on Water . . . she could cause any liquid object or substance she desired - be it wine or water -to rise into the air like misty vapor overnight creating countless opportunities for mischief ([21]:134). Kingsport was founded in 1814 by Wiley Boggs and his family. The town became a cotton plantation center, and the Boggses developed a large sugar refinery. In the 1930s, the town's economy shifted to manufacturing, with the development of aircraft production plants.
