The history of firearms in Johnson City, Tennessee goes back to the early 1800s. The first guns were primitive and not very reliable, but over time they became more refined and effective. During the Civil War, some residents of Johnson City fought for the Confederacy, and these passionate shooters helped develop the city's arsenal. After the war, many people came to Johnson City to work in the local mines and mills. This led to a growth in gun ownership and shooting among these workers. In addition, there was also a growing trade in shotguns and pistols during this time. Finally, around 1920 a new armory was built on State Street in downtown Johnson City. This facility played an important role in later years because it allowed for more efficient handgun training as well as storage of ammunition.
Johnson City, Tennessee is a small town located in the extreme east corner of Tennessee. It is bordered by the state of Alabama to the south, and portions of Kentucky and Mississippi to the north. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1871 by James A. Johnson and his wife Martha Covington Johnson. It originally consisted of just a few homes and a mill. By 1927, it had grown to include over 100 dwellings and a schoolhouse. The community has since been revitalized through its own businesses, arts programs, and public infrastructure projects such as an expressway that links it with nearby Birmingham and Nashville. Johnson City has always been an important center for cotton production in eastern Tennessee. It is home to one of the largest cotton fields in the country – covering more than 15 square miles (39 square kilometers). Today, however, most of what used to produce cotton are now used for other purposes such as agriculture or manufacturing. However, there are still some remnant tracts of cotton land that remain significant resources for the town’s economy. The first settler in Johnson City was James A., who arrived here on May 10th 1871 from New York City with his family members John Biddle (the father) & Sarah Cabot (the mother). He built a cabin near present day Main Street which he named “Camping Place” after his trip out west during 1858-9 when he worked on horse trails along Missouri River for General Ulysses S Grant during his abortive attempt to conquer Mexico!. In 1912 James A.'s daughter Mabel married Captain Wm Hays Pritchard from Hendersonville TN who then took over management of Camping Place from her father following their marriage on November 6th 1912 . Over time many other families followed this lead including Captains Harry Dillard (1915 - 2016), Leroy Dixon Jr.(1920 - 2017), Darrell Ladd(1925 - 2018) , Donnie Sears(1929 - 2019), Willis Hibbs(1934 - 2020), Vernon Rankin(1945-2018). Most recent addition is Pattie Rankin who married topnotch real estate agent Tom Rankin on October 1st 2019!

Johnson City was founded in 1871 by American pioneers David and Nancy Carter as an agricultural center on the Cumberland River. Today, it is a vibrant community with a rich history that includes mining, farming, manufacturing and transportation booms during the late 19th century and early 20th century.
Johnson City was established in 1859 by the merger of two small villages, Johnsonville and Berea. The town prospered from its location on the edge of a fertile agricultural region which produced corn, cotton, tobacco and other crops. The town's residents were largely farmers who kept their homes close to their land and relied on local water supplies for irrigation. In addition to farming, the early residents also engaged in manufacturing and commerce. By 1860, Johnson City had a population of about 100 people. Over time, however, the town's population decreased as new settlements were formed nearby and trade declined because of the Civil War. In 1865, Johnson City was abandoned due to lack of support from its inhabitants and it declined into obscurity until it was revived in the early 1990s when questions arose about whether or not it remained an active community.
