Jackson, Tennessee is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee. The population was 561 at the 2010 census. It was founded on December 12, 1819 by Andrew Jackson and his family. Jackson was the seventh president of the United States, serving from 1828 to 1829. In 1898, during the early years of the 20th century, Jackson became an important center for cotton production in eastern Tennessee. The industry declined after World War I but has since resumed in some form or another in Jackson. Jackson is located at (35.560914,-86.898409). According to the USGS National map published in 1902, it lies on a high ridgeline that skirts both banks of the Cumberland River and commands a panoramic view of much of eastern Williamson County and southwestern Johnson County including all but one small community (Fayetteville) within its boundaries- making it one of only a few towns in this area with such expansive views. This natural setting has served as an advantage for Jackson over other communities around similar size because it does not experience significant amounts of traffic or development noise; accordingly, residents can enjoy quietude and privacy while living close to major metropolitan areas like Nashville or Memphis without being adversely affected by either circumstance The earliest known mention of what is now called "Jackson" appeared on a deed dated November 29, 1796 from James Robertson to George Washington Evans (the first white settler). At that time there were no villages or settlements within present day Williamson County other than two scattered patches near Knoxville and Chattanooga which may have been named after British Generals who had visited those places during their Tour through East Tennessee in 1794-95 according to various historical sources- leaving behind evidence suggesting these areas were also Auraria Banks sites due westward expansionist efforts by western settlers looking for new land north/northwestward along Appalachian Mountains corridor where they believed Cherokee natives could be found living peacefully under European governance given their lack thereof east of the mountains- fulfilling President George Washington's promise made during his Farewell Address delivered January 10th 1796 when he said "I am persuaded that those Nations cannot subsist except among themselves" In 1800 John Sevier purchased 2,700 acres from David Ramsay – later renamed Sevier Farms - adjoining what is today Northeast corner lot 881 along West Side Street just south of downtown Jackson between Lauderdale Road and Elmwood Drive NE This tract included most modern day Southeast corner lot 912 adjacent Northwest corner lot 810 also known as "Piney Ridge." On July 15th 1800 Davie Allen sold 640 acres extending North from present day Southeast Corner Lot 601 about 3 miles northwest Of Downtown Jackson To Richard Henderson For $1 per acre It appears this parcel extended easterly 1 ½ miles into present day Polk County beyond Edgefield Road About midway between Lebanon Rd & Poplar Run Preserve Park Antioch Rd current location . Jackson was founded in 1750 by Major James K. Polk and his group of Tennessee Volunteers as the first permanent settlement in what is now Jackson County, Tennessee. The town was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had won a decisive victory over British forces at the Battle of Hinnville in 1813. In 1815, the town became the capital of Jackson County when it was filled with settlers from surrounding counties. The county seat moved to Bristol in 1820 and then to Tullahoma in 1830.
