Jackson, Tennessee is a small town in the southeastern corner of the state of Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Jackson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General Andrew Jackson, who had been president since 1828 and who had played a significant role in its development. In 1906, it became one of fifteen towns within the new Jackson County seat of Smithfield to be created from parts of Knox County when that county was split between Tennessee and Alabama. The town is located on State Route 40 east-west and State Route 6 north-south. It has a total area of , making it smallest municipality in Jackson County by land area. It is bordered on the west by Trimble County and on the east by Breathitt County. The town limits are defined as follows: north by Trimble County line; south by Breathitt County line; east by US 60/2006 (the Appalachian Mountains). Two rivers run through or adjacent to Jackson: Big Sandy Creek to the east and Little Sandy Creek to the west. One major highway running through or adjacent to Jackson is US 60/2006 which runs from Knoxville northeastward through downtown Jacksonville before turning southeastward into Corker Valley until it reaches Chattanooga just outside downtown Jacksonville; this road forms part of an expressway corridor connecting Nashville with Atlanta that provides access to many shopping malls throughout both cities as well as other larger metropolitan areas in eastern Tennessee beyond Interstate 20/25 including Memphis, Birmingham, Knoxville, Cove City and Johnson City among others Jackson also contains several parks which include Cass Park (which features a baseball diamond), Indian Head Park (aFormer plantation house now home to various businesses), Pleasant Hill Golf Course (home course for local golfers) and Woodstock Plantation estate park which includes several large mansions dating back to 1790s including one called "The White House" still standing today that served as Confederate President Jefferson Davis' home during his time as Governor of TN during Reconstruction after being taken over by Union forces following his surrender at Appomattox Court House in 1865

Jackson was a town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. It is now a ghost town and the only remaining community in hardin county. The population was 905 at the 2000 census. Jackson's first post office was established on July 12, 1820. The community of Jackson was platted on August 5, 1827 by James Witherspoon and others under the name of "New Ulm". It became a city in 1907 and has since been renamed for General Andrew Jackson. The town was founded by pioneers led by surveyor John Ladd as an agricultural center with logging operations around it. By 1830, Jackson had become the most important cotton-growing center in Tennessee because of its location near the lower Cumberland River and its access to transportation including wagon trains travelling upriver to markets in Nashville. In 1836, Major General David Hunter namedJackson after himself – his father's home state of Georgia – when he moved his headquarters from Nashville to Hardin County while commandeering supplies for General Braxton Bragg during the Yazoo Land War against Confederate forces under Jefferson Davis. The new military outpost thrived until 1840 when disease took hold among local farmers and traders who lost their livestock to bovine fever then non-existent in that part of Georgia at that time. In 1847–48 local resident Elijah Denton organized a volunteer militia company known as "The Old Guard" which played an important role in suppressing partisan resistance against Union forces under Ulysses S Grant during the Harrison Wayne Rebellion period (1851–1865). In 1861, following Confederate defeat at Fort Donelson outside Chattanooga, Hardin County seat went to Murfreesboro due to lack of votes from Jackson Township residents who were loyal to Lincoln; however they retained voting rights within their township until 1865 when they all seceded into West Tennessee Unionism along with other townships west of Knoxville proper before finally merging into Johnson County effective March 1st, 1870. Withdrawal from Unionism followed soon thereafter as secessionists turned their attention towards neighboring Arkansas where resources were more available so by late 1870 most people returned home except for a few who continued living elsewhere until May 1st when final official annexation papers were filed with Johnson CountyRecorder’s office Shelburne Fenton later stating “the whole population having removed within five months preceding” this date A post office operated at Jackson from July 12th 1820 through November 3rd 1862; it closed due to low mail volume & changed its name back to New Ulm on September 10th 1863 after reopened under Postmaster General Nathaniel Banks ..... A school opened here on October 14th 1865 @ 11am taught children OF ALL AGES grades K-12 .... Total enrollments= 66 .... From 1830-1890 white enrollment= 484 black enrollment= 20
