Jackson, Tennessee is a city in the extreme western portion of the state of Tennessee, on the Cumberland River. It was founded in 1819 by General Andrew Jackson, who became president in 1828. In 1861, during the American Civil War, Jackson led an army to battle Union forces at Battle of Shiloh and then later helped lead Union troops into Nashville and Chattanooga where they were victorious. After the war ended, he served as a U.S. Senator from Tennessee until his death in 1865. The first AR15 rifles were built in Jackson by John Brownell and Sons Rifle Company.
