Hendersonville is a city in Davidson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 61,871 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Davidson County. Hendersonville is named after General James Henson and his family who established a trading post here in 1796. Hendersonville was incorporated as a town on November 15, 1885. It became an city on January 1, 1969. The first human settlement in Hendersonville was by David Wilkinson and others in 1796 when they erected a small cabin near what is now downtown Hendersonville. A large trading post called "The Henson's Post" operated here for several years until 1800 when it passed into hands of General James Henson and his family who built their home here around 1800-1801. In 1802 General Henson sold the post to John Sevier and others which led to the establishment of the First Presbyterian Church in 1802 which is still standing today. The First Baptist Church followed suit soon afterwards with both churches sharing services together until 1865 when they each purchased their own building which remain to this day (First Baptist Church: 1915; Second Baptist Church: 1925). There were also several log cabins built during this time but they all burned down within five years leaving only one remaining structure from that era - The Bowman House - which still stands today as a museum property adjacent to First Presbyterian Cathedral (now known as Deaconess Episcopal Cathedral). In 1865 general Nathan Bedford Forrest founded what would become the Confederate Army here under command of Major Robert Ewell and began construction on Fort Donelson which eventually served as Confederate Headquarters during the Civil War. After Fort Donelson surrendered on April 9th, 1865, most of eastern Tennessee fell into Union hands including Hendersonvilie where General Jephson ordered all civilians to leave or be put into slavery along with any military men found inside the city limits! Most likely because of this harsh treatment many residents chose not to return home following the war while others did manage to find new homes back outside of town although some remained behind until after World War II when they finally left again due to political reasons associated with newly created state boundaries resulting from World War II Japanese internment camps located within nearby Chattanooga area! It wasn't until 1957 that local citizens voted overwhelmingly in favor of having their own city government separate from Davidson County consisting of Mayor/Councils plus headcounty administrator functions with voting privileges for resident citizens over nonresident citizens! This separation occurred effective January 1st 1959 making Hendersonvilie one full-time municipality!!! One major factor underlying this split was economic development opportunities available within neighboring Chattanooga more so than anywhere else in Tennessee at that time thanks largely to Interstate 65 through much of Williamson County including Hendersonvilie providing access to various jobs and tax breaks throughout those years!! Today there are numerous restaurants, bars & nightlife options scattered throughout downtown including satellite theaters & movie theaters serving up great Movies everywhere !! Although slowly growing back since then things have really picked up steam recent expansions include remodeling/renovation/new builds totaling nearly 100% increasing business canopy !! Additional growth will be inevitable as more people continue moving into town & additional amenities become available !! With just over 60k residents currently living there you could easily go days without finding anyone without knowing it !! And if you do find someone locally it's always worth taking a walk or two out McCarthy Blvd just east of downtown giving you plenty opportunity for interesting conversation starters ?? Hendersonville is a small town in Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Henderson County. Hendersonville is located on the Cumberland River and has a population of about 12,000 people. The first permanent settler in what would become Hendersonville was Nicholas Bledsoe in 1792. The town was named after General Nathaniel Henderson who fought in the American Revolution and later became an important general during the War for Independence. In 1852, General James Hogg founded a post office here with mail service coming through Nashville. However, by 1860, Hendersonville had outgrown its growth and grew to be a small town with just over 2,000 residents when it lost its status as county seat to Memphis due to annexation by that city. In 1901, Congress passed the act creating Knox County which included much of what is now Henderson County including Hendersonville and portions of Trumbull and Anderson counties. As part of this action, Knox County also appropriated money for the construction of a canal linking the Tennessee River and Chattanooga via Johnson City. Work on this canal began in 1902 but it never reached completion because of World War I problems along both sides of the river The town experienced another boom period following World War II as businesses took advantage of increased birth rates due to wartime shortagesof workers in other parts of America However, towards the end of the decade there were significant reductions in business activity due to changes within Tennessee government that favored rural areas over towns This trend continued into the 1970s until most businesses closed or moved away during this time period Today there are few if any businesses active in Hendersonvil
