Hendersonville is a city in the United States, located in Davidson County. The population was 27,893 at the 2010 census. Hendersonville is the county seat of Davidson County. The city was founded on April 22, 1853 by John C. Henderson and his wife Sarah Coffee Henderson, and named for their son-in-law Daniel Boone. It grew rapidly due to its location on the Cumberland River, coal mining and manufacturing, as well as its role as a trading post on the Tennessee Valley Railway. The first store in town was opened by J.C. Henderson and Fannie Brown in 1857. A cotton gin was built in 1870 by Wm Hays and built into what is now First National Bank Building which still stands today inside the bank building interior walls. In 1903 it became home to Mount Carmel College until that college's closure in 1985 amid financial troubles caused by overspending on student scholarships and other programs; later that year it became home to Hendersonville State University (HSU).
