Hendersonville is a town in Fayette County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,820 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Memphis–Ft. Lauderdale–Barkley Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hendersonville was founded by planters in 1813 as a trading post on the Cumberland River. It became a village in 1838 and became a city in 1907. Hendersonville is named for General James Henson, who fought with distinction against British forces during the American Revolution and was also an early settler in what is now Fayette County. The first settlers were two families of Welsh immigrants who arrived around 1792-93 aboard the "Dolphin" and settled near present-day downtown Hendersonville on land that had been donated by Colonel John Sevier to the Welsh people as part of their resettlement program following America's Revolutionary War victory over Great Britain. The first white person to live in Hendersonville was Elias Boudinot, who arrived there about 1800 and established himself as a trader and interpreter for Indian leaders before moving to what is now Lebanon College & Research Center on nearby Williamson Fork in 1802. He later served as mayor of Nashville from 1822 to 1830, when he returned home to open his mercantile business until his death at age 80 years old in 1829. Among other things, he helped build First Baptist Church (now known as First Presbyterian) which stands today on State Street just east of downtown Hendersonville within easy walking distance of many local businesses including banks, restaurants and hotels along with numerous historical sites throughout downtown Franklin County’s Historic District Heritage Corridor between Springboro Road westward through Murfreesboro (the then capital of Tennessee) and Clarksburg (the seat then of Fayette County), both located within easily accessible driveable distance from Hendersonvillette proper including its original courthouse square now housing several businesses before being replaced by new City Hall No matter how much or how little one knows about this period or these places today – nothing can quite prepare one for living through it directly! Thereafter various builders proceeded with their plans for handsome brick buildings upon cleared lots adjoining Savannah River until finally construction began on Nashville’s worldfamous “New Town Square” northwest of Main Street where today we stand more than 200 years after its initial erection! From this self-imposed centerpoint taverns circulated like water waves outward until well into evening hours before finally finding lodgings some where convenient while others went out into traffic looking for entertainment or purchase; areas lying immediately southwesterly (west side current Broadway) across Macon Avenue thence downriver past Vinegar Hill all along Hermitage Creek; northwesterly past Hawkins Mill ending abruptly at bluff overlooking Jackson Lake – all without ever having occasion actually TO USE THAT SQUARE IN CENTRAL NASHVILLE – most everyone lived either NEAR WHERE THEY WORKED OR WEST OF THE STREET ON WHICH THEIR HOUSE WAS LOCATED OR SOMEWHERE IN MIDtown WHERE EVERYONE MET FOR A GOOD TIME BEFORE GOING HOME AGAIN THE NEXT DAY! This imposition upon nature resulted not only from man but from government also since no appropriations had been made earmarked specifically for building that square yet every article published ABOUT IT recited/reported huge costs already incurred PLUS still future ones theretofore unfulfilled plus even MORE if you included designs & drawings prepared by early architects & engineers + ALL WITHIN EASILY ACCESSIBLE REACH OF DOWNTOWN HENDERSONVILLE!! Today we still marvel at those days when everything seemed so much more fun because apparently nobody ever got hurt trying anything except maybe planting some trees!
