Hendersonville is a small town in Davidson County, Tennessee with a population of just over 9,000. The community was founded in 1881 by James Henderson and his wife, Fannie. Hendersonville is named after General John C. Campbell, who fought at the Battle of Franklin and was later exchanged prisoner of war at the Treaty of Paris. The Henderson family operated a grocery store and post office until 1905 when they sold the store to Hoke Iverson. The Henderson family also made contributions to many local charities including the Baptist Home for Aged Ladies and Children (now known as Covenant House), First Baptist Church (now called First Presbyterian), Methodist Episcopal Church (later United Methodist), Williamsburg Presbyterian Chapel (now known as Statedown Presbyterian Church), Hale Academy for Girls, Armstrong Agricultural School, and Morehead Agricultural School. In addition to their philanthropy, the Henderson Family also donated land to numerous local schools including Davidson High School, Wesleyan College Preparatory School, Hillcrest Elementary School, Hickory Hollow Middle SCHOOL and Morehead Agricultural School which are still in use today. In 1907 James Henderson married Anna Belle Hardaway who came from Knoxville, Tennessee. They had two children: James S., born in 1909; and Fannie Mae Hardaway II., born in 1911. AfterJames' death in 1938 his widow Anna moved back to Memphis where she died on October 12th 2009 at age 93 years old. In her memory the community erected a monument that can be seen from Main Street eastward across from Mount Zion Cemetery

Today, much of Hendersonvillee remains rural farmland while portions are developed into residential areas such as downtown and eastern neighborhoods around the riverfront park known as Science Park Plaza
