In 1799, one of Hendersonville’s earliest landowners – James Robertson – purchased 1 ½ miles of land east of downtown from the Cherokee Nation under an agreement known as “the Treaty of Holston”. Under this treaty, both sides agreed to stop fighting and work together on developing new settlements within their respective territories. Robertson quickly became one of Hendersonville’s most influential men; he donated money to various civic organizations, served on local boards (including those responsible for ratifying treaties such as “the Treaty of Holston”), and built several homes across town including his own home which still stands today – still used by locals as a polling place today! Throughout its history, Hendersonville has seen some major changes: it has become a center for commerce and industry (especially during its early days when cotton was king), it has undergone waves of population growth (due largely to immigration from surrounding states), and it has seen significant development within its borders due to technological advances such as railroads and automobiles! However, despite these changesover time, much remains unchanged about its namesake city: Its rich history dating back over 100 years makes it an essential part of southeastern Tennessee culture!
