The Goodlettsville Rifle and Pistol Club was formed in 1865. The club’s first charter called for the club to be “for the conservation of our firearms, ammunition and other useful objects pertaining thereto, as well as to shoot at targets.” The club continued to meet monthly and hold shoots with limited success until 1868 when they organized a rifle team which won the state championship. In 1869, the club held their first pistol match where they defeated rival City of Memphis Rifle Club 2-1. From then on, Goodlettsville Rifles and Pistol Club enjoyed consistent success in competitions across Tennessee. In 1911, Goodlettstown residents James Waddell and his son John took over ownership of the club after Waddell’s death. At James Waddell’s funeral in 1912, many members attending paid their respects by placing wreaths around his coffin with rifles under each arm (a tradition that continues today). After James Waddell’s death, John Waddell became president of Goodlettstown Rifle and Pistol Club and continued to lead the organization into its later years. During World War II, Goodlettsville Rifles & Pistol Club served as a liaison between government officials throughout Middle Tennesseeand helped produce munitions used in the war effort. In 1946,Goodlettstown Rifle & PistolClub merged with neighbouring Delta Rifle Association to form Delta-Goodlettsville NRA which still exists today!

Goodlettsville is a small town located in Shelby County, Tennessee. The population was 1,898 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Nashville–Davidson metropolitan area. Goodlettsville was founded in 1823 by James Goodlett and his family. The Goodlett family left good land and started a new life here. They named their home "Goodlettsville" after General James Haldane Goodlett who fought in the Mexican-American War and then served as United States Secretary of War from 1839 to 1840 under President Andrew Johnson. The town began to grow rapidly in the 1830s because of its natural resources: coal, oil, timber, and iron ore. By 1850, Goodlettsville had over 3,500 residents. In 1879, John Mosely donated 150 acres (64 hectares) of land to the town for use as a public square and school district boundary line. The donation helped start what would become one of the most important aspects of Goodlettsville’s character – its community spirit that has been perpetuated through education and tourism ever since. Today, Goodlettsville is a vibrant community that celebrates its traditions while expanding opportunities for everyone living here.–Some notable examples include: growing crops on more than 2 million acres (800 km2) of farmland; producing world-class bourbon; being home to two major hospitals; hosting events such as NASCAR races; and attracting visitors from all over the country each year with its beautiful scenery and rich history

This system continued until 1933 when it was replaced by ASTM D611 which standardized both military and sporting rifles across North America including handgun use during World War II (see firearm standardization).
