The merger made Goodlettsville one of the largest firearms manufacturers in America. The first rifles produced by WR&SHC were Model 7 and 10 revolvers. These pistols were designed as backup weapons for law enforcement officers and soldiers during World War I. During World War II, WR&SHC produced assault rifles for the United States military. The Model 86(r) was the most successful assault rifle produced by WR&SHC. It was used extensively in both World Wars and remains an important weapon today. In 1954, Winchester Repeating Arms Company merged with Browning Firearms Corporation to form Browning-Hanson Firearms Corporation (BHFC).
