Allen turned Goodlett's Cotton Plantation into an agricultural center and tourist attraction known for its plantations, gardens, and public square. In 1984, Ira Allen donated $100,000 to the United States Forest Service to create the Ira J. Allen Forestry Center which serves as a research facility for tree botany, forestry science, landscape architecture, landscape engineering and other forest-related programs. In 1991, Goodlettsville also became home to Mount Carmel Baptist Church which has served as a religious affiliation for residents of the town since 1881.
