Goodlettsville is a small town in Williamson County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Knoxville metropolitan area. Goodlettsville was founded in 1853 by James Goodlett and his wifeElizabeth Comstock Goodlett. The Goodletsville post office was established in 1854. In 1865, John Pemberton opened a general store here and named it Pemberton's Store after himself. By 1870, there were three stores in town: Pemberton's Store, Witherspoon & Reynolds' store, and Hargrave's store. It became an incorporated village on July 1, 1872; its first mayor was Samuel Nance Hill (1825-1912). In 1901 the old Joplin Normal School building burned down which destroyed most of the records from that time period for the school district here including transcripts of classes from 1892 to 1903 when it moved to Joplin Municipal College where it later became known as Middle Tennessee State University until 2003 When it moved back to Goodlettsville again this past year but with different branding due to new ownership/renovation work that has been going on there now for over 10 years The original church here also burned down around 1907 but according to some reports they rebuilt it anyway so good things continue even though we may not always see them happen
