This event is considered one of the earliest mass shootings with firearms in America. In 1932, Goodlettsburg College was founded in Goodlettstown Township by local farmers who wanted to provide an education for rural children living on farms outside of Nashville. The college moved to its current location on Mayflower Drive in 1934 and began offering undergraduate courses as well as graduate programs that year. In 1949, Goodlettsburg married nearby Vanderbilt University which made it one of the first universities ever to do so.

After the war ended in 1945, many factories closed their doors but Goodlett'svillage continued to grow with many new businesses opening up including Donnybrook Farms[4], an organic farm that has been operating since 1978,[5], and First Baptist Church which now has a congregation of over 2200 people[6].

Goodlettsville is a small town in Sevier County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,609 at the 2010 census. Goodlettsville is part of the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is located on the Cumberland River and is about 20 miles west of Knoxville. The first post office in Goodlettsville was established in 1851. Goodlettsville was named for General James Wainwright Goodlett, who served as a colonel in the Union army during the American Civil War. The community wasn't started until 1872 when J.F. Hinton founded a flour mill on what is now Main Street. In 1886, John Chalmers built the first school building which still stands today on Court Road north of Interstate 40 and Main Street east of I-40. Mrs. Jane Ewing donated land to build an industrial park adjacent to her home in 1924 which became known as Goodlett's Valley Fairgrounds today). In 1942,Goodlettton High School was built and it remains one of the most popular high schools in Tennessee today with over 12000 students from grades 9-12 In 1970, Goodlettsville became an incorporated municipality with a mayor and council form of government under state law 21-1-101 (the Municipal Election Law). On November 5th ballot, 1989 voters approved a charter amendment that created a Mayor/Council form of government for all municipalities within Sevier County with two terms instead of four years serving no possibility for reelection after four years without service or recall attempt; this change took effect January 1st 1990

The town was named after General Andrew Johnson, who served as president from 1828 to 1829. Goodlettsville developed into a small community with few businesses and no schools during the 1800s. However, the town started to improve after it became part of the new state of Tennessee in 1850. The first school in Goodlettsville was built in 1851 and attendance increased rapidly thereafter. In 1860, Goodlettsville became one of the 24 towns chartered by Tennessee as a result of its admission into the Union as a state. The town continued to grow during Reconstruction and experienced rapid growth until World War II when it reached its peak population size. After the war, many residents left Goodlettville for other parts of Tennessee or America due to industrialization and economic decline throughout much of America. Today, there are only a few remaining buildings from early days of Goodlettstown
