Goodlettsville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. Goodlettsville is part of the Nashville, TN-KS Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was named for General James Goodlett (1795–1868), a Confederate general who fought in the War of 1812 and in the Mexican–American War. The first settler in Goodlettsville was Washington Longstreet. He arrived in 1797 and founded what became known as Longstreet Station on the Cumberland River. In 1809, he married Anna Maria Sprague and moved to Goodlettstown where he constructed a log cabin and began to grow crops. In 1814, he built a large frame house on land that now forms part of the town square. His son Daniel built another home on this same property around 1830. By 1840, there were ten homes in Goodlettsville; by 1850 it had grown to twenty-four homes. In 1853, General Andrew Jackson appointed James Gentry as postmaster and later served as Mayor of Goodlettstown from 1865 to 1870; during his term many new buildings were erected including an Orthodox synagogue which still stands today (built 1889). The Original Main Street Bridge across the Cumberland River was completed December 15th 1861 by Lincolnton builder J H Bowman & Son under contract with General George Armstrong Custer’s 4th Cavalry Regiment #564 who crossed over for their Christmas entertainment at Mrs Custer’s farmhouse on December 16th 1861; it spanned 3 miles long with 2 spans each supporting 5 lanes wide! The bridge has been destroyed but some remnants remain visible today including panels from both spans still attached to each other! James Gentry also donated land near present day Slaughter Road for use as a Methodist church which opened its doors September 8th 1860 called First Methodist Episcopal Church Of God And Christ located just east of current day Slaughter Road/Old National Pike exit 205 on lot No 6 within sight of current day US 61! It remains one of Knox County’s most popular tourist destinations visited by millions every year! For years after Open House events alledgedly coincided with Biblical celebrations such as Pentecost – Holy week etc., much speculation surrounded this Sancreed Baptist Church location until finally definitive proof emerged that Open House events actually took place during Sabbath morning services several weeks prior not related to any religious celebration

They started a cotton plantation that produced more than 1 million pounds of cotton between 1865 and 1870. The local economy changed dramatically during this time period as tariffs on imported goods caused a decline in output at home. The retirement community of Deerfield Village was named after Goodlett's plantation in 1930. The name has been used for other developments since then but never for the town itself.
