Goodlettsville, Tennessee is a small town located in the Knox County borough of Memphis, Tennessee. It was founded in 1874 by J.C. Goodlett and developed as a farming community with extensive slave-based agriculture until 1865, when it became part of the Union Pacific Railroad network. Goodlett's rifle company was one of the first businesses to offer firearms to Tennesseans during the antebellum period. The Goodlettsville Armory Complex was built in 1936 to commemorate this history and serve as a center for western gun training and competitive shooting events. Today, Goodlettsville is home to many museums and historical sites related to firearms, ranching, manufacturing and other aspects of American culture.

Goodlettsville was incorporated as a town on March 2, 1868, from portions of neighboring Palestine Township. The first mayor was J.B. Stephenson; current mayor is Donny Witherspoon. Goodlettstown Methodist Episcopal Church- built in 1892- serves as a social hall for the community and hosts religious services twice per week during lunchtime and evening services on Saturday night along with occasional concerts or dances by local groups at this location According to the 2017 American Community Survey*, Goodlettsburg had a population of 8,531 residents living in 603 households.* This makes it one of least populous towns within Shelby County* with an estimated population below 7,000* according to ACS data††

Goodlettsville is a small town in Hardin County, Tennessee, located on the eastern edge of the city of Memphis. The population was 3,542 as of the 2010 census. It is part of theMemphis metropolitan area. The community was named for General James Goodletts, who served in the Union army during the American Civil War. Goodlettsville developed along a wagon road that crossed from Nashville to Memphis and then out to Oppenheim on the Cumberland Plateau. The town was first settled by farmers and their families in 1857. In 1868, Goodlettville became an incorporated municipality with a government consisting of a mayor and six trustees. By 1870, good crops had been brought into production and by 1880, there were three stores and two barns in Goodlettville. A post office opened at Goodlettstown in 1881, but it closed within two years because of low mail volumes. In 1886, local investors bought 9 acres (3 ha) near what is now downtown Goodlettville for $2 per acre (0·9 sq km). They began building houses; only one house remained standing at this time according to oral history research done by Johnnie Bessman of Memphis in his book "A History of Memphis: Volume One" (1997). The first store built in what is now downtown Goodlettville was operated by Wm Henson & Bros., which opened its doors on February 12th, 1888 The first schoolhouse established in what is now downtown Goodlettvilie was operated by Methodist Episcopal Church #1 from December 15th 1865 until January 1st 1889 when it merged with Mrs Capps Academy #1 which also opened January 1st 1889 As early as 1892 there were plans to move manufacturing operations away from Shelby County due to changing economic conditions caused by railroad construction across county lines; however these plans never materialized In 1895-96 William Fenton ran a grocery store at 5pm every night outside his home until he tired of people coming late for groceries He eventually moved back inside after getting complaints from customers about being heard outside his home
Goodlettsville was founded in 1827 byCaptain James Goodlett and his wife, Sally. The first school was built in the community in 1829. In 1865, Goodlett's Factory moved to Goodlettsville from Hendersonville. From 1865-1902, Goodlett's Factory manufactured Confederate military uniforms. In 1902, the factory closed and all of its products were sold to Nashua Manufacturing Company in Nashua. It reopened as a small shop in 1904 and continued making Confederate uniforms until it closed again in 1970.
